Hi guys,

I have a bit of a question for the ARL guys, my cars going into the garage in a couple of weeks to have the cambelt and waterpump replaced, but i was going to get them to check it over as i have a feeling i have a boost leak as well, being as the power is down a bit and its a little smokey on startup and at full chat, its only covered 60k atm, a few weeks ago i got under the car and one of the intercooler pipes was hanging out a bit, so i pushed it back in. after talking to one of the revo remap guys at edition 38 they said that due to the connections that are fitted to the hoses i would probably need to replace the pipe as the connection had failed.

so here is my question (after the essay haha!) would it be worth spending out the extra dosh on a darkside development solid and silicone hose kit at £250, and maybe the s3 FMIC that they sell for £250 to remove the dreaded connections all together? and if so would it be worth removing the egr valve at the same time?

the only concern that i have, is that the pancake pipe on the darkside kit isnt flattend, and apparently on the Cupra R this can lead to the steering hitting it on full lock? i know i dont have the Cupra R but i have a set of Cupra R wheels and i have been looking into the Cupra R coilovers that apparently need the ARB from the Cupra R, but will allow it to be dropped low rather than fitting over the top of the driveshaft?

im really after some options to see what everyone else has done?

cheers all and i await your replys :)

Jon

depends on how much you want to tune?
if you just run a decent stage 1 map then standard will be ok and just replace the hose
you will need to put a decent clutch in on stage 1 if torque is over 320ft/lb
if you are going bigger turbo/injectors then you will need the bigger intercooler

Hi there mate, I have a Leon FR+ TDI 150 and had trouble around a year ago with the intercooler outlet pipe, which is the one under the bumper passenger side, the aluminium tabs had worn off which was allowing it to slide past the metal clip, at the time I just welded them up and reshaped them but I think its coming loose again.Ibelieve a replacement pipe is somewhere between £30-£40 but with a remap and higher boost I dont know how long it will last, What I'm going to do is buy 2 of these connectors and a silicon hose and do it that way or maybe even a full hardpipe kit, the following link is just an example of them, SFS sell them for £16.50, just another option mate.

id like to be able to tune it as and when, i will deffinately be getting it mapped when the boost is running correctly, but i dont want to put more strain on an already fragile lump atm, so thats why im sorting the boost leak first to see if its that or the turbo on its way out, if its the turbo then i will be going the hybrid turbo route. cheers GT that may well be an option to at least get it temporarily fixed, then i can get the s3 cooler at a later date!

There are 3 different sizes of connector in the intercooler pipework, the small one connects to the turbo only I think, the large size connects to both sides of the intercooler I think and the middle size does the egr and the other 2 on the other side of the ones that come from intercooler. So there is 6 of these connections all in, 1small,2 large and 3 medium.

Darkside use these connectors in there pipework when you choose the option with no egr delete and standard intercooler, they also sell them separately but are bit more expensive.

A company called sfs motorsport sell them for £16.50 each, that's where I'm getting mine. They are a trader on the ukmkvi forum. Here's a link to their website

http://www.sfsperformance.co.uk/

And their number

01582 509250

Best thing to do is give them a call when you know which ones you need and they will sort you out. Don't do it through email as it could take longer I've heard.

The other thing is if you are thinking of getting the darkside kit and intercooler then there may be no point wasting money on these only to change them.

How that helps.

No I think they are different, as I said above the large fits inlet and outlet in intercooler and medium fits egr, thus is what I've learned from online stuff but I would still check with supplier.

by all accounts SFS is a sister company of darkside, so i suspect they are the same parts. dont quote me on that though!

also does anyoen know if the darkside kit comes in any other colour than black?

There's 8 different sizes on that eBay one and only 3 different sizes in the pd150 pipework, that's why I'm going to SFS as they will know which ones I need. They're also slightly cheaper.

I'm pretty sure the large intercooler ones are 68mm.

Ah I see, was assuming 150 cos the thread title was about a 150. The egr valve is the same on a 130 and 150 so that will be the same size connector but the intercooler on a130 is a side mount so they may well be different.

I'm sure if they didn't suit they would let you swap them though.
