This was going to be my next point - I guess the suggested heat range was wrong for your set-up? Cos surely you get a plug that'll draw the heat away from the tip better? (colder range) preventing it from breaking up?

Cheers for the info - I'll keep that up my sleeve for the next time anyone is raving about them over another brand.

P.S. ShaunyBoy - Have a search for Flame Propagation/ Flame front in internal cumbustion engines. There's much information and many studies into exactly how flames propagate from the spark plug! and how this affects performance!

for sure, the IK22's I used did not suit the spec.. my bad, and @ my cost
Denso's tech help, and refusal to guarantee the plug they spec'd for my actual spec however is what nailed it to NGK tho. If they cant guarantee their product but advise it, its time to walk away.
Since heard of several IK22 users suffer failures.

No performance drop, and blissfully unaware the ceramics had indeed fallen apart inside the engine. Only as a consequence of the headgasket going and me needing to remove the head, did the damage reveal itself.

Spotted this today after my car has been spluttering now and again over the last 2-3 days both at idle and when driving under load. Today I changed to NGK's just incase.

My IK22's looked fine but the spluttering was down to the male/female pins to and from the ecu there was a little moisture and corrosion on them. I cleaned them up and used some white grease spray to try and keep them corrosion/moisture free and I then recovered the ecu. The really heavy rain 2-3 days ago was no doubt to blame.

Its idleing really well now, not lumpy or hunting, just stable and consistent. One to keep an eye on no doubt.

I've currently got NGK PFR6Q but was thinking of swapping to NGK BKR6EIX Iridiums?

Tis what I got for my 40K service recently. Only because they were £1 cheaper than the PFR6Q's an all :).
Running sweet as on stage 2 with no hunting, ideling, flames, bangs, explosion or tip issues :D

Back from the dead
I changed for a set of the Denso IK22's in my LCR after going for stage 2 spec and after 3k I tossed them out. Was really disappointed. Car was running over temp, with inconsistent performance. Went back to NGK's and problems vanished. Thought I had a bad set, but probably not by the sound of this. NGK all the way for me.
