Carbon canister - ticks when the engines running (more noticeable when cold) - not sure about removing it but helps with emissions on cold starts, and don't think there's any perfomance to be gained by removing it, and may cause excess emissions come MOT time if removed (possibly - others will likely know more)

cheers mate. Im not removing it for any performance reasons. Im doing a light ''tuck'' on my engine bay. So everything i can remove will go. I doubt it would make too much difference to my emmisions. Could it? lol

I doubt VAG would have put it there if it didn't do something for emissions - like I say not sure how much effect it'll have, but you may run into problems - if you have a exhaust gas tester could always check if it does anything to emissions :)

i wouldnt agree with that tbh. Look at hondas running charcoal canisters...unless you live in calafornia, they are pointless. Yeah it probably will reduce my emmisions but i doubt it will be to a point it could fail mot. All the Mk1 golfs with the 1.8t conversions i have seen never seem to be running them.

awsome link mate. Cheers! it will be going! i not lik ethe sound of that pipe bieng a fuel tank breather tho lol. May have to put a lil filter on that and make sure its out of teh way of all sources of ignition!!

I'm been thinking about doing the same as well. Only reason being that it would tidy the engine bay up as the hoses run quite a fair way. The hose is split and goes to the TIP and to the top of the intake manifold on my LCR.
Did you just block these two holes up?
Where did you run the hose from the fuel tank?
You got any pics?

i got some pics of how the bay stands as of today....and yes....its getting painted soon.

the pipe to the tank seems to have a 1 way valve....so it is only open when the inlet manifold is sucking on it. I just ran it down behind the expantion tank and into a hole on the wing. I blocked off teh vacuum pipe. and just cable tied the wiring out the way.

tbh mine just routed into a mass of vacuuum piping...didnt really pay attention to where it went. Just presumed it was to the inlet. If ot does go to the 'tip' then i presume that is to heat up the fumes before they are burnt via the turbo??

That's how the LCR hoses are routed (I've modified the diagram to include my FMIC instead of the two SMIC):

Would love to know why the hose is split to the TIP and to the intake.
Obviously I'm going to remove them but it bugs me because I don't understand why it was done like this :p

Would like to block the two holes in the intake and the TIP but I'm not sure what with?
