Yeah it’s not great news. My hope is that removing the blockage will keep the car running ok for a while. I envisage getting a new exhaust at some point so I’m not too worried. That is of course until someone on here points out that what I just did is bad for some reason....

Unfortunately for me I didn’t get it checked out while it was still under warranty, as I’m pretty sure that it could have been fixed properly then.

I got my center resonator removed a few weeks back, and wanted to take some photos/videos of things. It was at that point I took a closer look at the exhaust with the engine running and noticed the blockage.

Verdict so far - sounds better but not significantly louder. What is definitely noticeable is the dsg farts, which a can now hear with the window closed (up TIL now I have had to stick my head out of the window, and I’d only notice them in 1st and 2nd hear, as the wind noise would drown out anything else. Token photos included.

No obvious drone either, although I haven’t really done much more than my 15 mile commute. The roads are bad enough, and the Michelin’s noisy enough, such that all I could hear was the usual road noise.

One thing that I did notice, however, which may spawn a new thread, is that there seems to be something odd about my passenger-side exhaust outlet. I have noticed for a while that the other one has significantly more carbon deposits that the letter most one. Initially I thought this might be due to some valve system in the exhaust that would shut one off at low lod (like the system my old 335i had). However, after looking at the exhaust today when I returned home I noticed a couple of things. Firstly then right exhaust was very hot - this may be normal, I can’t recall the last time I bothered to inspect the exhaust after a drive, but the second thing was that the left exhaust was making a funny sound, and not much was coming out. After looking down the pipe I noticed something that looked like a hairball stuck down it.

Is this an indication that the muffler could have problems?

(apologies if the picture isn’t great quality)

During the cold snap last week on startup i noticed there was only steam coming from the drivers side exhaust on my 300 whilst it was on idle. Worried i may have a blockage now unless that's normal !

I believe the 300 has a valved setup. Someone else with a 300 should be able to confirm that. If true then this is probably to be expected

There is no valve set up in the exhaust of the 300...unless you buy a specific system with one in... ego-bull x.. Amytrix...

Not at all. There’s lots of information being passed through the forum, some right some wrong. It’s all a case of finding out what is correct and if the information isn’t discussed we will know nowt

The only way I noticed both exhausts being used on my Cupra was that I forgot to get something out of my boot one morning just as I had started the car up.

Just wanted to say a quick thank you for all of the kind posts. As a number of you have said, it’s gutting but at the end of the day I’ve still got all my arms and legs left, and the car will (hopefully) be repaired. The only thing I’m not looking forward to now is the £850 excess

Any update on the car mate?

Had my first proper experience of the front hopping / axle tramp 'feature' that I've heard the Cupra owners talking about.

I had a heavy right foot and booted it from a standing start onto a roundabout. Feck me, I was looking in the mirror expecting to see that the gearbox had fell out the car.

Had the estimate from the repair garage for my Cupra today...

£17k

And that's assuming that there's no damage to the DSG box..

Admiral have authorised the repair. At least now (judging by the repair cost) I'll have a virtually brand new car again
