Completely agree with the above... I went down the cheap option and the car was never really happy at all.

I then had the custom remapped by a specialist who knew what he was doing and the difference was night and day!

Dont skimp - get it done properly.

that ones not been on a rolling road yet

Youve nothing really to compare to then. I chose Jabbasport because they had mapped 1000s of 20vts already, they had many map examples to show me. They know the cars so well that if a componant started playing up they were able to sort it easierly.

Everyone has to start somewhere but the 225 sounds suspect at those power levels, if its true it might go pop. in which case id not chance my pride and joy. If its not true and in reality running 255 then id find it hard to trust anything im told. in which case id not let them near my pride and joy.

why take a gamble?

There are guys out there that will custom map a car, but it comes at a big cost due to the ammount of labour involved, there is a guy near me chipwizzards who does custom mapping on N/A cars and its quite expensive but wayne is reputable in the french car scene saxo vts's etc. Last time i say a quote for custom mapping it was well over the £450 mark but for custom mapping to be of any use its really for higlhy tuned engines to squeeze the most power of of them. For example on N/a cars running a throttle body set up.

This guy said stage 1 but custom mapping :S custom map doesnt involve stages as its a map thats been wrote from scratch to suit that car and that car only. Stage 1 is a generic map that is loaded onto the car, depending on the condition or turbo and engine and also mods done to the car is there the HP varies, could map 4 lcrs and may all give slightly diffrent figures. Stage 2 is taking the stage 1 map and modifying it to suit mods such as a de-cat, FMIC, which is there the extra 10 - 15% of power comes from, and can also do stuff like map the post cat lambda sensor out.

Choosing a map depends on what you want, agressive power delivery or a smooth progressive torque curve which are maps like custom code, which tend to generate slightly more HP. Or more agressive maps are revo or APR.

By all means go to your mechanic but you could end up paying in the long run, over boost killed my car as the waste gate wasnt opening, and was also close to killing the turbo.

i think i get the picture,

guess i'll have to avoid the short cut and coff up a little more for a stage 1 from r tech at approx £250

one question i do have is if i want a map where i can switch between stock and stage 1, where can i get this from, i have seen superchips odb attachment, but i think the curve on the upgrade is a bit slack towards the bottom revs, does anyone have this, if so what they like???

worst case scenario i will have to go for a r tech tune in loughborough

If you want a switchable map then you want a Revo map with the SPS, but it's a lot of extra money for the SPS.

For the benifit of people reading this thread i'll tell you a little about amature remapping companies.
Anyone can become an ecu remapper, you can go on ebay and buy the equipment for around £2000, this will come with all the hardware and software required to load modified maps to ecus and will mostly come with a "days training". You need to know nothing about cars, engines and the process of remapping you just contact the file manager, meet, pay the money and there you have it - your own remapping business.
Most file managers use the dimsport genius system which they buy from dimsport and it comes with:
ECU file modification software
1 x master genius unit
several slave genius units
A couple of thousand credits (used when creating new files)
This will typically set them back by the best part of £10000, which in business terms is quite alot to re-coup in earnings, so armed with your new found knowledge of remapping and actually being a filemanager (because you normally fly to dimsport in italy and they teach you the basics before you part with your cash) you need to recruit some "franchise" remappers who can use your files, for a nominal fee for each one and help you to start earniing some cash. So now there are a few people with ecu remapping capeabilities running around messing with ecus , they have paid for the equipment, been given some very basic training and have been sent on there way to make some fast cash.
The problem with this is every person who buys these pieces of equipment are told - YOU WILL MAKE MONEY WITH THIS!!! most come from walks of life that have nothing to do with the motor trade and as such dont have a clue what to do, other than what they have been told.
AND when a fault occurs (which very often does) they have no help, other than a 12hour a day help line thats a single bloke 200miles away who is still finding these things out himself.
These indipendent companies may charge pennies in comparison to the likes of AMD,CC,REVO,JABBA etc - this is because the maps have been created with minimal cost and 99% of the time no developement costs, normally just hit and miss.
I could bang on about this subject all day but in short, and its said time and time again on here - BUY CHEAP - PAY TWICE!

ok so how much do i have to spend at revo to get the free sps????

by the way what do you think of superchip bluefin????

they only get upto 250bhp and the curve looks a bit slack to me compared to what i have seen out there.

would this be a good move at £391??? will let you have stock settings and plug it in and you have 250,

the only thing that puts me off is the 250bhp......

The apr does this too but its alot of cash as you need to install the cruise control. Didnt think bluefin was available for the 1.8t only for the TFSI engines in the cupra, new gti etc.

It does sound a bit suspect I have to admit! I usually one to say to people (other people lol!) to try something different... but the claims are a bit far fetched!

Also:

yet you say with respect to the 225LCR

So how can it be a custom map then? Unless it's been mapped on the road... which I'm all for, but it should really be cross/double checked with a dyno session!

Well spotted matey!!!!!

I would walk away pronto, like he would if he broke your car!!!!
