common on all turbo'd cars
is exactly as said above
no pressure from throttle as car isnt drawing air as not under load during gear change, so turbo slows and is then repushed when you accelerate again, the pause is the brief time it takes for the pressure in the turbo to reach the level you notice it at
regarding the lag between gear changes.. i beleive it does help if you have changed your dumpvalve to a forge item or equilvent as they react quicker than the standard bosche units
I've just taken delivery of my ST and absolutely love it but i have to say performance wise i don't think there's much in it and my previous Leon was only a Revo'd Cupra so i reckon a Cupra R would have it. I reckon the ST is much more of a refined cruiser with bucket loads of torque and far less rattle's. but thats my opinion! Think i'll miss the 'ragability' of the Leon sometimes.

As far as fuel goes, the 1.8t in the Cupra is much better for economy at motorway speeds... a friend of mine has a ST2; mine is a Cupra. On the run from Southampton to Gloucester (following each other) he averaged 29mpg to my 34. This is a Cupra though, not a R, which in this case seems to be important.
