Water leaking into boot through fuel flap unit

Hi guys,

I am encountearing a strange issue with my seat Leon mk3 (No sunroof).
For a few weeks now, I regularly get water inside the spare wheel compartment.
I thought it was the rear vents behind the bumper so I took the bumper off and applied some silicone around. Unfortunately that did not work and water is still getting in. Yesterday I found out that water was leaking when I dripping water on the fuel filler flap.
Has someone encountered the same issue ? Is it the flap or the actual locking motor ?

thank in advance

Just had this exact same.problem myself, thought it was the vent glass but no.
Water was getting behind the fuel flap filler seal which drips straight down to crevice by vent flap.
I took the whole fuel flap/ filler oart out and tiger sealed around opening then re -installed. No more leaks now. God knows how it gets behind but.i guess water ginds a way.
Video on how to remove it
its easy, just use a pry tool and remember to take the.screw out first by.the pin/lock actuator

Hi thank you for your reply!
Glad to see I am not the only one with that issue that does not seem to be very common. I just bought a new fuel filler flap as I am not very comfortable with gluing the flap.
Just a shame that I took off the bumper and applied some silicon around the vents before realising it was from the fuel filler flap

Hi, no problem at all.
Yeah it dosnt seem to be very common, did the same as you and sealed the vents first, with no luck.
The water was creeping in down the side where the flap hinge is.
If I were you though I would still run a fine bead of silicone around the opening where the whole thing sits into.
Just take your time removing it and don't forget to take the screw out first bud or you'll never get it off !! 👍
