Water gauge

Hi, I have a long standing problem whenever the weather is cold. I would start the engine in the morning and the water gauge indicator in the dashboard would beep and flash red.

However, when I turn the car engine off and then turn the car back on the indicator doesn't beep or flash for the second time.

I've had two garages look at it  and they can't seem to figure out what the problem is, but it doesn't affect the way the car drives and the water levels are normal.

Has anyone else had this problem?? ;)

probably the 2 prongs in your coolant tank. unscrew the lid and you will see them both just give them a scrape with a screwdriver or something this will probably cure it.

Cheers all, the coolant level is okay as thats been checked a few times and the beeps has been going on for quite a while now... too long to admit :D

I'll give it a good scape and see how it goes. :funk:

just did this there now and it worked like a charm, i think my sensor must have got some oxidisation when i drained my coolant cos the bottle was left out of the car for a few days in the dry, so that solved it, great hint,

I had this problem last year, seems to have cured itself now though. No doubt it will come back this year at a point.
A few things I was told last year about it, u can scrape the prongs or change the header tank as stated above, which to be fair isn't very difficult.
Also someone said if you just add a little bit of water just to take it over the line on the coolant tank, this can cure it, this is what i did actually. Or just wait for it to go itself lol. No major problem, won't cause you any problems in the long run.
