Are you not using coolant ?

What was your temp reading ?

Was the radiator fan running ?

Had it lost the power once it had cooled down ?

Have you checked your oil to see if water is mixing in there ?

Any other symptoms ?

well it cant have an air lock as the fans where running

better get it in for that service get them to diagnose it mate :)

if the car was still running when you looked under the hood and the fan was running did you have the aircon on as the fan will be on consistantly with air con on!

there is a pressure relief valve built into the coolant filler cap

these can develop a fault and become stuck open, this causes the coolant system to loose pressure and then the coolant can boil away

fit a new cap as they are only a few quid, you never know

failing that it sounds like you have a faulty thermostat, fan switch/fan or a leak

do also check for signs of brown shite in your coolant tank and/or creamy shite on your oil filler cap

good luck
