I don't get all this thrashed nonsense. Modern cars have rev limiters so its not really possible to thrash a car. I use the limiter as a signal to change gear, I always have. I had my last car from 68,000 to 140,000 miles "thashing" the pants off it without ANY major problems.

but at the rev limiter ,you've passed peak power/torque so why bother?you could drive quicker by changing up sooner.

Yeah I know, although I've read posts from people at Santa pod and their "perfect" runs, according to their graphs, are slower than if they hit the limiter.

I like to think that people who "thrash" their cars also take care of them.

If they haven't, they're probably not going to do a great job covering up any damage either.

So unless your unlucky it should be easy to suss.

Remember, always take your time when looking over a potential buy.

I agree. I thrash my car but get it serviced on the nose or before, and if anything needs doing, its gets done. A cold start should speak volumes..... no dodgy smoke and the chances are all of the engine bits are in the right place.

Does using full boost count as "thrashing"? Theoretically the more boost you use the more likely that the tubro is going to go poop earlier. So all the whistle freaks out there that boot it from 3-5k then change are actually thrashing it too.

The worst car you could possibly buy is a 1 lady owner three year old car with 10,000 miles on it. WHY ? ? ?

It's probbably been used to take the screaming brats to school and shopping averaging about 70 miles a week.

So it gets started then turned off, then started then turned off you get the picture it never gets up to temp and the engine never gets a good run to clear its pipes .

So when you buy it and use it the engine says "WTF " and promptly blows up because as we all know 90% of engine wear happens in the first 10 minuets ( thanks Duckhams)
