Is your external temperature sensor working OK? I'm sure between Seat and Skoda they would have spotted this:blink: but that's what needed replaced when our climate control packed in. Of course, if the outside temp is reading 35 degrees (as ours was) it's kind of easy to spot whats not working.
Apologies if I'm stating the blindingly obvious:rolleyes:

I've just had my wife's 2001 Leon aircon re-gassed at our local Kwik-fit for 45 pounds - this included a vacuum check (passed OK) and refilling the entire system with gas/oil. They said the system was nearly empty, so I doubt one of the Halfords refill kits (40 pounds a go!!!) would have been enough

Details are on the Kwik-fit website, and they have a deal where if they can't reduce the air temp by 10% then you get it free. Before the re-gas the aircon was warm at best - afterwards it's now nice and cold.

Hi Distant Sun - yes the external gauge is fine. Seems to be something more sinister hidden within the wiring of the car altho the dealer said the wiring looms in the Altea were "top notch German ones". Obviously something somewhere clearly isnt top notch but hopefully a further 3 days poking with it will tell me what!

Pallison - top tip! I had no idea the likes of kwikfit could regass aircon. And thats a much better price than Skodas £70 and SEATs £99. Cheers! Just wish the fault with mine was that simple.... :help:

Brand new air con compressor fitted (whatever that is!) and its back to its chilly self again. Still prefer the simplicity of 3 rotary knobs and an AC button. Climate control far far too fiddly, even when its working right! :headhurt:

PS, coming back from the garge, pressed the hazards button to thank someone for letting me in and it fell into the center consol! [:@]

At least its easy to unclip the base of the gearstick and click it back into place, anyone else had this?

Glad it's all working again:D
Co-incidently, I think ours might be playing up again. When I collected it after it was serviced this week (warmish afternoon) the interior of the car was quite hot so I switched the climate on to 16 degrees. The fans only rose to level 3 and the air didn't feel particularly cold. When I set it to 'low' the fans kicked up to level 6 but again the air really only felt like it was normal outside temperature. It was only running for 15 minutes until I got home but I think that should be long enough to get down to a reasonable chill. Will have to take it on a longer run and see if that makes any difference. I checked the Leon later that day and the air from it definitely felt colder when on 'low' after only a few minutes. Oh well, might be another trip back to the dealer:(

When my Altea 2.0Fsi Sport was in for a new cruise control stalk the service manager mentioned that the only other "issue" that I was likely to encounter with VAG models was the aircon!
He said that the electric cabling can chafe on the underside of the dashboard cuasing aircon to do odd thing like blow hot/cold incorrectly (might only refer to Altea's?).

Remedy requires removal of the dashboard etc. replacing wiring and is a biggish labour bill!

My cruise control "repair" worked OK since it was done on 27th May - took 1.5 hrs under warranty.

I've already had that problem fixed! When I 1st got the car, often the aircon would blow hot air when I was accelerating. Dealer fixed it, telling me it was a frayed wire behind the controls.

This time the air con compressor packed up which was a totally different fault.

The climate control has probably been the worst thing on this car. 2 faults aside, I can never seem to get a comfortable temperature set. My friend with a new Leon says the same thing.

On saying that, the windows were steamed earlier and you can just press a button for the climate control to go into hyper mode and it clears in seconds, the ONLY good thing about the climate control :D

Because just setting the temp would be a bit too tricky?
