Hi all
Probably on a hiding to nothing here but does anyone have one of these for sale? Tyre fitters managed to scrap the rim repairing a tyre. Only other option is new from Cupra as they can’t be diamond cut. Apparently not enough material on them to do it 🤦

Sorry to hear of your experience. My current car has diamond cut alloys and I dread the day I need to get new tyres fitted as diamond cut alloys do seem to be quite susceptible to damage by tyre fitters.

Hindsight’s a wonderful thing but with alloys (diamond cut or otherwise) it’s always a good idea to agree the condition your wheel(s) with the tyre fitting place before they start work and then inspect them again after they’ve fitted / refitted the tyre(s) before you leave the tyre fitters. If there’s any new damage, then it’ll have been caused by them and they should pay for repair or replacement of the damaged wheel(s).

Has the wheel ever been repaired before? If not, normally diamond cut alloys can be refurnished two times in a diamond cut finish, so it might be worth taking the wheel to another alloy wheel refurbishing company for a second opinion. Additionally, there are now some places that will do SMART repairs to diamond cut alloys, so that might be an option worth exploring.

I hope you get it sorted - and hopefully at the tyre fitting place’s expense!

Thanks mate. I actually took a video of the wheel before I took it. The tyre fitters have asked me to get a quote for refurb. The specialist I took it to today said that VAG new car alloys, esp diamond cut ones are now designed with no ‘extra fat’ so cutting them isn’t always possible. Cost saving he said. The design of these ones is an example of that. He turned down the job.
If you have any recommendations of firms that I could get second opinions from, be very appreciative!

One wheel refurb company that gets lots of positive mentions is Lepsons. Maybe other forum members have positive experiences of Lepsons or other wheel refurb companies and can post details in this discussion topic?

I’ve no personal experience of using Lepsons but there have been owners of Golf GTI’s and R’s over the years on some of the performance VW Golf forums who have used them and felt their alloys after refurb were better than they were when new. This is the link to their website; https://lepsons.com/

Lepsons have branches in Gillingham in Kent and in Wolverhampton (contact details / opening hours under the ‘About’ tab). Lots of information on their website of the services offered and refurb processes used. They do state that they weld in new metal to restore the surface of the rim where required (stage 2 of the process outlined at the link below), so if they’re able to add new alloy material to a damaged wheel, there ought to then be sufficient ‘fat’ for it to be cut back again on a CNC diamond cutting lathe to achieve the diamond cut finish.

Might be worth giving them a call to discuss. Alternatively, you could complete the online quote request form on their website - link; https://lepsons.com/request-a-quote/ (there’s provision to upload pictures with the quote request).
