700,000 seat cars. They will make it searchable on their website to see if your car is on that list.

Plus they'll contact us directly:

Seat also said it planned to contact owners so their cars can undergo tests.

It will also set up a search engine on its website to allow customers to find out if their vehicles are affected.

WOW, the Germany government have the cheek to shutdown their nuclear power stations because of environmental impact ,,,,,,,,,,, then they flood the market with NOX laden diesels, go figure

If there is a change to the tax band on my car I will expect VW to foot the "extra" for the length of time I keep the car.

They will only remove the "cheat" program and that's it. IMO

I have already heard one guy complain to his Seat dealer stating "I only bought it because of low emissions" B:censored:CKS, he bought it for economy and low tax .

From what I understand, there are (at least) two versions of the 184PS TDi engine that went into the Mk3 Leon - mine's a 2013 car with engine code 'CUPA', and I think it's only EU5 compliant, so would agree with what craigr73 posted. The other variant mentioned on here is 'CUNA' - if that's the one they're currently putting in, then can we assume that is EU6 complaint?

I'd be interested to know the source of this - I'd have thought those two should be the other way around...

Ideally, it'd be good to get a list of which engine codes are from which engine family.

Says in my brochure that if you have the 184TDI manual then its a euro 5 engine but if you bought the 184 tdi with dsg then it is a euro 6 engine

What has happened has happened, the best thing VAG can do, or SEAT, is offer a large discount on your next car!

All these people flapping about engine types etc. What are you going to do if you think yours is one ? ( remembering its actually software that's dodgy, and they've lied before.... ) what can you actually do?

1. Stop driving it. - not much use.

2. Write a letter to Percy Polar bear pleading forgiveness.- pointless.

3. Write letters to all the residents on the East coast whose homes are affected by coastal erosion? - well meaning but equally pointless.

4. Driving round in sack cloth and ashes - uncomfortable but whatever turns you on.

5. Drive round with " I am a dirty b'stard ' emblazoned on your car - may lead to physical violence against self for unspecified reasons.

6. Try to sue VAG - pointless until something concrete is decided.

So basically you can do sweet fa so worrying about it isn't going to change a thing.

Worry about things you can change. Your health . Your diet. Your weight. Your lifestyle.even your gender. :D

I want to know so I can drive round and downshift near Prius's so they know I'm hurting the environment.
But really I'm just curious, probably like everyone else haha.

I am taking legal advice. I plan to sue under the sale of goods act for current value of car, maybe more. Depends on result from legal eagles. 3rd VAG car since late 2006. Cannot tolerate being lied to. I am not a money grabber, it`s time honesty paid. Shame as Leon TDI 140 dsg turbo issues / mpg + Audi A2 1.4 tdi damaged from new+ 2 Octavia`s VRS CR dsg were good cars but have been let down too many times by VAG Group, regarding quality / warranty issues, without compensation for problems / wasted time etc not of my making.

Have to laugh how everyone is saying they'll sue and seek compensation....for what? Road tax is based on co2 not nox therefore your not going to pay anymore and the new tax system isn't going to be based on emissions either. Will your car be worth less? Who knows just now but I doubt it. Look at the huge recall toyota/lexus had years ago and that was due to a safety issue and the values weren't affected. If your on contract hire then it will be the finance company that will lose out I would have thought and possibly the same for pcp if it worth less then the gfv figure. I bought my 184 cause it's what I wanted .....couldn't care about emissions! Does it perform the way it should even if it has a cheat program....yes! Well I'm away to drive and enjoy my 184 and pollute the environment the same as every other vehicle on the road. Happy motoring!

Agree about tax rates etc but the suspicion is that the software may also have been reducing CO2 output.

Have some contacts with a consultancy co that does a lot of work on Diesel angine design and they seem to think that whatever fix VW/Seat introduce the outcome will mean a drop in power as for most people that would be less of a problem than a drop in mpg which would lead to all sorts of claims

Just curious - if you have had such bad experience with VAG products - why do you keep buying them ?

If that is true - it will open up a flood of claims.

You pay a premium for the 184 over the 150 if they reduce the power - what did you get for your extra money ? ( yes I know the brakes & suspension are different )

You pay insurance based on the higher insurance group for the 184 - I am very sure you won't see a reduction when the power is reduced.

The scary part is that I believe they will do it during a service and in many cases not even inform the owners it has been done.

May I suggest now is the time to purchase an obd lock, before someone makes a killing on them, or find a homemade way of blocking it off, removing it, or is there even a fuse that controls it?

If my work ride Passat loses 20bhp ( down to 120  ) it'll just make the Leon seem faster when I get my hands on it..... :D
Got to order a new work motor in the next few months, hope they sort this out soon..... currently Passat's are only available with diesel engines in the UK...... :(

if it has to be an oap's derv sportswagon then have you looked at the mazda 6? i think it looks quite smart :)
