Hey everyone,

I just got lowering springs from a friend, that he had on his volkswagen polo 1.2 r line, but will they fit my seat ibiza cupra bocanegra ? As far as i know polo and ibiza are identical with the part used.

If the springs are from a 1.2 petrol then the answer is probably not. The 1.4 dual charger (Cupra) engine is very much heavier and so the front springs would probably be too soft. This would mean that the car would be nose down and would not have enough spring travel at the front.

The lowering springs are h&r springs these are normally quite stiff, would thry still be too soft

They will be an unknown on that car as springs, or suspension, in VAG world are sorted out into "weight ranges" and as said already these two engines are different weights.

So to convince yourself either way, you will need to get onto the H&R website or a sellers website and find out the stock number for lowering springs for both the Polo 1.2 R-Line and for the Ibiza Boca.

The Polo ones will as long as they are the *over 1866kg* or whatever the exact figure is. They sell under .... and over .... you need the over ones. I have them on my Boc and they are absolutely fine

I think that this is the concern that "we" have, they were off a 1.2 R-Line Polo, though the OP might just be lucky, the H&R site should give an answer.

Yes its a fair comment. Mine were off a GTI as you mentioned above the 1.4 TSI. Brand new but box open cost me £95 instead of £150 for the Boc ones online

If I am being fussy, I find it a bit annoying when aftermarket spring suppliers rationalise their ranges, so you end up with, as you inferred, a couple of spring ratings/ranges for standard chassis and a couple of spring ratings/ranges for sports chassis, where the car manufacturer had maybe four for each, but it does mean that you should always change both sides when a spring breaks - which can't be a bad thing! (Same with Bosch batteries in Costco, they hold a range of maybe 12 versions, Bosch would probably offer a range of 18 or so to cover same potential market place.)

I had a nightmare with my springs as i bought them on a whim as they were a bargain. I then saw the weight scale and didn't know if the boc needed over or under and then couldn't ring anyone as they didn't know if Polo spings fit a Ibiza. In the end I looked under the bonnet at the front axel weight and everything matched up and been all good ever since. Only thing I would mention is H&R are performance and looks rather than comfort, can get a bit choppy at times
