Maybe the facelift version of the Mk4 will have the hardware upgrade, to make the really cheap and nasty Android tablet they've fitted in these cars 25% (!) more 'powerful', but the rest will be rolled out in software updates - if the current hardware can support it, which frankly I doubt.

Volkswagen joins Automotive Grade Linux and the Linux Foundation to accelerate open source innovation and shared software development. Adopting an open platform across the industry enables automakers and suppliers to share and reuse the same code base, which reduces development costs, decreases...

The other recent news bite on another thread was this:
These upgrades are for MIB3 which i believe is includes seat and skoda cars too. For the golf its all 2022 build date cars that get the hardware improvement so i guess the other brands will be the same
You would think so. Possibly the classic case where the software written needs more powerful hardware than what it's installed on. Probably contracted the hardware before they had the software written so it is under powered for the job... May be. The criteria use to be something should happen after pressing a command within 3 seconds... probably more demanding these days. I've read really long boot up times for mib3.

Ah it's not as bad as it used to be. I currently own a mk8 golf, it's bad for climate control on startup though, you have to give it 30 seconds or so before you dare touch climate control.
Actual start up is about 5s, things come up to speed in about 30/40s
I get to drive both my Cupra Mk4 and a Peugeot 5008, the Infotainment in the Peugeot works and its quick it feels like pure luxury compared to the Cupra and shows how bad the VW infotainment system actually is. VW need to up there game I think this will be last VAG car I have now.
