VR6 Conversion, Possible???

Since joining this forum ive had plenty of ideas 4 my GTi 16v, but recently ive been thinking, if i get a VW Golf mk3 VR6 donar car would it be possible 2 transfer the engine and gearbox into my car? Any help would be much appreciated!!

Dont bother with the mk3 version mate, get a mk4 4motion engine its loads better. Ive got one in my Corrado and its loads better than the old 12v version, 24 valves are the way forward

the mk3 golf VR lump only has 170bhp, the corrado VR lump has 195, thats 25bhp difference from 0.1l!!!!

And the engine from the V6 4motion is 204bhp from the 2.8.

TBH volkswagen are pretty lazy only managing to get 170BHP out of the original 2.8 VR. especially considering the the Civic gets 181BHP out of a 1.6 N/A engine !!!

late spec coil pack 2.8 engine aint to far off raddo 2.9...if you do get a VR it would not be rite if you didnt super charge it check out the storm developments website.

The 2,8 12v is 174 BHP but rolls more like 185, the 2.9 12v is 190 but more like 195-200 and the OBDII is 174 but more like 190-195.

The 2.8 24v is 204BHP but with a remap, exhaust and filter it can be closer to 240, mine is 234BHP!!

The problem with the 12v is that its not as responsive as the 24v and its a lot older. If you get a 12v its gonna be fairly high mileage, and if the chains havent been done then you could be forking out £500 straight away, there also isnt much room for improvement over stock, whereas the 24v has more room due to the VVT etc.

R32 is the best option, but try finding one!!!

Also, a lot of VR owners are now turboing their motors so a lot more second hand chargers are coming up for sale.

Oh yeah, dont forget to upgrade your brakes

There's a yellow wide arch Mk2 on the show scene, running a 12v VR6 lump. Nice engines, uber smooth... And far from slow. The Mk3 Golf VR6 did 60 in 7 seconds or so (not a massive improvement on the standard 16v Ibiza I guess, but supercharge it and you're away)

Also reckon it will be more drivable with a VR6 lump as I imagine they're quite torquey.

Thats right, i saw it at the modified nationals show on saturday. didnt look like there was any amendments to the engine bay either!

it is just a bolt on 'thing' if you have all the parts to start with.

you can even use a cable clutch from a 16v if you didn't want to modify the firewall for a hydraulic clutch.
