well just like to say i have now found my original cable for vagcom....

but i still carnt connect to my car...it used to.

my mates vagcom on his laptop connects fine,

what else can this be?

Is your cable a USB cable m8?

There are two comonents to VAG-COM.

VAG-COM itself (the screen you see to read fault codes, adaptations etc)

Plus the driver for the cable, are you farmiliar with the device manager in windows M97NER?

So, it's not the car. It's not VAG-COM. Did we rule out the laptop? Have you checked that the drivers supplied by your vendor are working? If you eliminate all computer possibilities, then all that is left is the cable. Search the forum. There are many links by those who have trouble getting cables to work.

Mine is a serial port ,

Ive had vagcom on my laptop for over a year now and its always been fine, i just used to go on vagcom and scan for faults then tht screen will come up when it reads the ecu VAG Number ect... but none of this happens now,

device manager- a little bit,
