just plugged into my mk1 leon cupra, ran a scan for fault codes and got this:

Scan: 01,02,03,08,15,17,19,22,35,46,56

End.

does this mean i have no faults as non are listed??

i had a ecu light last week but went off after 5 days and hasnt returned. does the engine need to be running to get results?

The ignition needs to be turned on or running. I take it you pressed scan? and it took a few mins scanning through everything and then finished?

i had the car running, searched for my chassis then hit scan and thats what i got. . . is that normal? no faults at all?

yup. I dont normally find anything unless theres a warning light on...might be worth running an individual scan on the engine and abs controllers anyway

actually i did that afterwards as i though it was a bit strange, went to select control module and hit engine, waited for a bit and it came up with "no response from controller" !

yeah i did but vag only wants to work with cam 3. also when testing it recognises the cable it says port status ok, interface found, type serial pass through, opto/iso no, ross tech design no. . .

From what you have written, VAG-COM tried to communicate but did not succeed. If had succeeded, you would have had a full report of the modules and it would have stated No Fault Found if there were no faults. My guess is your cheap aftermarket wire's drivers are not installed properly and the interface is not communicating. If the test successful, it would have indicated that K1 OK, K2 Ok. If you did not see those words, then the interface is not communicating with the car. Lots of threads exist on this forum to help you out.
