...whats the best thing to do about the rear lights staying on, short to ground?

The interior light are operated by the control module switching the ground wire, which means they always have 12V. Since they stay on too long one can be petty sure there is a wiring or connector issue where you got a short to ground. Just follow the wiring between the control module and the lights.

About the key fob frequency if they are all 433.92 mhz I wander if I could get a flip key then?

Sure, just get the right one that fit's to your control module.

you can set the keys up through vag com is that correct, you dont need the seat main dealer to programme them?

Yes, you can adapt the remotes with VAG-COM. The immobilizer part of the key can be adapted with VAG-COM too, but you need to have the SKC for your car.

what is a SKC? sorry to ask all these questions

so as long as I get the correct flip key casing I can just transfer the internal remote bits into that, is that correct?

thanks

If I were you, I would get a wiring diagram and check everything based on that.

I don't think transferring the remote internal would help, especially since you can adapt the remote part without an SKC. What would make sense is transferring the immobilizer part, but as far as I am informed Seat might have the SKC still on your car's emergency key's tag.
