Morning folks, needing your help please.

I took my 8v into the garage yesterday to get the brakes looked at, new ebc discs and pads fitted, ball joint and have a look at the engine which was runnign on after switching off for a 1 sec or 2

picked up the car last night and driving it home felt very strange, lacking in power. booted it a bit and about 3000 rpm it hesitates slightly, then the power kicks in and then red lined at 5000 rpm.

keeps red lining at 5000 rpm, took it back to the garage and they r like " oh thats a bit funny isnt it, we dont really deal with performance cars you might have to take it to a specialist and get it set up properly!........raging i was [:@]

the only thing i can see is they have taken the distributor cap off and the guy said he checked the timing on it. I really dont have a clue about engines, i know the basics but havent a clue about this

Has anybody else had any problems with the car limiting at 5000 rpm or can offer any suggestions i can throw in their face? i dropped the car off to them this morning and asked them to check it again.

your help would be much appreciated in this!

my old 8 valve cut out at 5000 rpm, i have no idea why as i bought it like that! if i was you mate i'd take it to your nearest seat stealer, i know they charge a crap load but i know for sure the'll sort it all out, after all they do nothing but work on seat's! they'll no what there doing. ;) make sure you get a quote from them first though!

You've obviously had a problem with the timing causing it to run on after the ignition is turned off, and these guys have attemtep to fix it by altering the timing, hence why the distributor has been messed with.

They've obviously made a balls up of this hence the probs your having. To be honest, if a garage is incapable of checking and setting timing, I would think twice about them letting them touch the car again.

i'm in a bit of a predicament, i dont have the money to take the car to local specialist, then there would be the costs that i'd have to recharge my local garage for, which i reckon they wouldnt be too happy to pay for another garage to fix their work.!

i'm in a catch 22 just now and havent a clue what to do! i've got a fairly local vw group specialist but they are fully booked for the next 2 weeks and about 30 miles away and i work mon-fri 9-5.

Just lie and tell them the SEAT garage had a quick look at it for free as a good-will jesture and confirmed the timing was badly out. Then politely tell the garage that botched it to sort out the problem, or you'll send them the bill from SEAT for the fix.

I'd be screwing if the car was worse when I got it back from a garage. Infact, I would have turned around and gone straight back.

well, it seems the timing had been misadjusted, i gave them the chance to repair it, picked it up and it seems fine now. i've still got a few things i need to get fixed on it, but fingers crossed the engine keeps running. thank you for all your help!
