Ok so does anyone know if the unit will work with the steering wheel controls and climate or will I need some extra equipment?

It's basically a 12V feed to the stereo. This will be already present on other pins in the quadlock but the OEM stereo does not need this to be wired in to power up. Other OEM units, such as the RCD510, won't even turn on if there is no 12V feed to this pin.

See here. Pin 16 (section 3).

I think i have this safepin problem but have no idea how to fix it. Help please?

RCD310 doesn't have a SEAT or VW logo splash when you start it. To be honest with you, it's not worth the upgrade or the hassle as it is just a normal, dull head unit with nothing special, whereas the RCD510 at the very least has a wide and touch screen.

And regarding the steering wheel controls, if it's a VW head unit, then I'm sure it'll have a plug for the steering wheel controls. It'll just be like plug and play after removing your stock/OEM headset.

Ive just purchased the 310 on ebay to upgrade my pre 2011 head unit in my leon. Can anyone recommend a good match fascia? The 2011 leon models seem to have the silver fascias now? Mine is just black/grey.

Should I also ensure I get the numeric code from the seller?

Many thanks
Rich

Mine is also black. Just contact sere motors (dave) on here, give him your VIN number and he'll get your colour code.

However, i'm sure that you won't need a new fascia...

Hi Jarre

Thanks for the reply....

Yep just done that..contacted dave with VIN. I will need new fascia as I have the 2010 Leon with the previous system. Not massive upgrade but for £30 on ebay cant go wrong. Once ive done this upgrade willlook into 510 once that gets cheaper....im still awaiting reply for code confirmation before passing over the dosh. Cheers

You need the code and it will also need to be wired in. The standard quad lock will not power up the unit. I can't find the answer on here of how to do it, plus I'm not really keen on messing with the wiring as I'm unsure of what needs doing so paying my local ice guy £35 to wire it in. You also need a wire which is £15 for the radio antenna. It's watch single to double antenna on eBay. Make sure you get the code of the seller. If its a VW unit it's usually easy to decode anyway but the Seat units are a pain

Cheers for the advice Yooni.

Ive got the antenna adaptor on order and getting the trim sorted. Still awaiting reply from 310 seller as regards to code. Wont pay if I dont get it! So far , just not replying for 48hrs is pretty much enough to forget that one! Ill request a cancellation (if he even replies!!??).

I wasnt aware that I will have trouble with the quad lock!!?? Thats a surprise. I did read the 510 may have problems.
The 310 i MIGHT be purchasing is a VW unit. Whats the procedure if I dont have a code? Will it cost to have it looked at? Why is it easier than SEAT 310?

Cheers
Rich

Did u get the antenna adaptor from eBay? Cheapest I can find is £15

The SEAT units are a pain to decode. I bought a SEAT one as I wanted everything to light up red. The VW ones have a blue screen. However when I went to all my local decoding places they all said the same thing, can't decide the SEAT units, just the VW. Not sure why but my advice would be to stick to a VW one.

Regarding the quadlock, I have a 57 plate FR and the 310 won't power up. Wasn't really aware of this but it definitely is the case for pre facelift Leon's. A local car entertaininment store should be able to do it for you. Basically I think one of the pins is missing in the quadlock and a live 12v feed needs to be fed to it to power the unit up. That's as much as I know really.

Anything else, just give us a shout

Oh and SEAT won't provide the code if the unit is not from your car. They match it up with the VIN. If you go to a shop that decodes them you are looking at around £20-£30 I'd say. Best thing is to buy a unit with the code

Hi Yoon
Thanks for this...
I have a 2010 facelift Leon so perhaps im ok with the quadlock? I will go for VW anyway as I prefer the blue lights. Got the antenna adaptor for £10 from ebay all in so not too bad.
Currently looking at my options with available radios
Cheers

You should be ok with the quadlock if you have a facelift model.

Good luck!
