Model Year 21/22 Upgrading steering wheel

Hi everyone!

I have been browsing the forum and found several topics regarding upgrading the steering wheel, but did not really find the answer in them.

I currently have a '22 formentor, with the 'default' steering wheel (attached a photo).
It is a heated wheel with ACC. I am looking to upgrade it to the version with travel assist and the buttons for mode select and start stop.

My main question is, has anyone attempted this themselves and how difficult of a job would it be?
I am quite new but I have some technical knowledge. I understand I need to buy the steering wheel with the buttons, but in a previous post there was some mention of parts for the heating, but since I already have those for my current wheel, can I just use those?

Thanks for taking your time to read my question and for any replies! :)

You'll then need a new slip ring. It has two additional connections for the Cupra button. The driving profile selection is done via the LIN bus and must be coded in the gateway.

Hello, in Greece our best retrofitter has already done that .
You need new slip ring, new steering wheel and also new airbag because the plugs at the airbags are different, our retrofiter change the plugs and use the same airbag.

If you have the basic steering wheel but with the XL Safety package (travel assist) then you can fit only the bottom part of the supersport steering wheel + slip ring

Thanks, I forgot about the slip ring connector. The airbag cable is also available separately in the right shops.

That's correct, but every VW part has a spare part number. VW doesn't approve every spare part as a spare part. But apparently there are people who have this number and can get the part. If you have someone with the equipment, you can easily read the number by removing the airbag and reading what's written on the sticker next to the airbag cable.
