'Slick' - while I'm asking questions... what do you make of your Short Shifter? What are the pros / cons, if any? Worth the money?

Cheers for your advice.

Wicked piece of kit for the money, i hated the OEM gear shift travel, it has a short gear length anyway, so to add long shift travel to already very short gears in 1st and 2nd, you would lose out in 0-60 tests as most of the time your changing gear!
With the JBS shifter its shorten it "just" enough to make it more a sporty and solid feel... i didnt have the horizontal short shifter fitted only the vertical changed and its a whole alot better... Actually has a sporty gear box feel to a racey feeling diesel...

I love it and even friends of mine that have driven mine have loved, two of which went out and brought one... ;)

Very cheap mod in my eyes and great improvement... :funk:

When i get it back the car, i should really meet up with a few people Derv people and show them what the work has done... MK is good for roundabouts!

Cheers for the info - does sound like a worthwhile, and more to the point, easy mod! How much was your kit, and where did you get if from? My usual aftermarket supplier, Awesome GTI, only supply the Neuspeed items, at £100 + VAT and delivery.

If you are up around this way (MK) i'd be interested to have a look / feel of the short shift ... don't need to drive it, just try the gate out and see what it's like.

I've just had to have the DM flywheel replaced in mine as part of the clutch upgrade ( it was flapping like a white french flag in the breeze), getting a bit pricey this modifying lark - going to leave mine as is for a few months now. Only thing left on my list is Eibach ARB front and rear and new front t yres next year.

Apologies Slick, I wasn't aware whether JBS was a brand or indeed a full on tuning company!

Really shouldn't have looked at that site... They make Nitrous sound far too tempting! Anybody know how much they charge for a full install? The 1.8T is listed as £1150...

http://www.jbsautodesigns.co.uk/n20.htm

Oh well... I've emailed them now! (Literally...) poor, poor, poor wallet!

Timbo might be worth emailing them more on towards the lines of Propane like devonmikeyboy, its seems to have better and cheap effects on diesels....

And yeah websites like that my wallet feels the pain from!

Have a word with Allards Timbo, they are installing both Nitrous and Propane on mikes audi at the minute, along with injectors, and a few other things.

Crikey - they're definitely going to break the 300BHP barrier then! Is this with the existing VT5 turbo, or is he going for the VT7 aswell? Apparently Allard have only fitted the VT7 to one customer's car - a complete unknown in Portugal!

I need to organise a map tweak with Allards and get the ECU warning light turned off on the dash - I'll speak to them... To be honest, I have more than enough power at the mo, but I'm just working to the assumption that by next Summer, I'll clearly have some savings that will need rinsing!

Don't we all! The lag is pretty bad tho - full boost isn't achieved until after 3000rpm - once you've 'traction controlled' your way through first / second gear, you will be in a thin, but incredibly vicious power band - for a daily 2WD driver, I'd imagine it's a bit unpractical. Hence why I like the idea of NOS - you can keep your 'sensible' 220BHP for everyday use, and the extra 25/50/75BHP shot of NOS for when a F430 or similar appears in your rear screen! Or, for the sensible, level-headed amongst us... track days and the Pod!

It just gets worse! ;o) When we're driving round in our ATB'd Bi-Turbo'd, Propane & NOS injected 16V 2.0 TDIs, what will do next? Has anyone ever converted a 2.5, 3.0, or 4.2 TDI from the Audi range into a Golf/Leon/A3 shell? Like most things, I imagine it can be done, but at ridiculous expense... The car may end up being a little nose heavy mind!

Funny that - I was thinking about a RS4.2... V10 TDI yesterday too...

So Mike, you consider yourself a diesel man rather than VAG? What other cars have you owned, pre the Cupra?

I'd find it hard to buy outside of the VAG group... Only ever owned Golfs - 1 Mk1, 2 Mk2s, 2 Mk3s, and now the Mk4...

Should probably keep m'head down, this being a Seat forum an'all!
