I started with a cheapo halfords polisher £30 quid job and was well......

Now i have a sander/polisher that has various heads, adjustable speeds etc... makes a niceish job.
i was wondering if this pc polisher thingy (pc 7427) would be any better it seems to be the daddy that all valeters use any ideas, or should i just get a pad set for my polisher and use that with good products? Seems all it does is spin so, alot of money if its not better

thanks

sorry for dumb question!!!

What is it that you actually have? Got a name/model or picture of it? I'm wondering if you have a rotary of some sort, if so, get some tution on how to use it properly, get some decent quality pads and you'll be laughing.

A Porter Cable (PC) 7424 is very good indeed - there is a reason why so many people use it. Its both user friendly and effective, much safer than a rotary for newbies to machine polishing. It spins and the head randomly orbits, so it is working in two directions all the time and mimcs a hand movement (only much faster of course).

Google or searchy here and detailingworld.com forum for silverline polishers, 35 quid and every bit as good as the pc if not more effective, (read: you need to be a little more careful) other manufacturers pads are compatible, check first though and whats ace is that its a 6 speed variable 230v as std, you dont have to buy silly transformers etc.

I think the Silverline you are on about is a rotary polisher, which is more effective in the right hands, but a fecking disaster in the wrong ones.

tis, sorry meant to mention after editing my first post i forgot! its a lot faster than a pc as the pc is not as abbrasive due to the lower rpm random orbital rotary action, unlike the silverline which is rotary only.

the spinning action is lessened as its more random orbital than rotary, in other words the pc vibrates more than it spins where the silverline type spins. both are speed adjustable.

Sorry was very vauge! Its a non brand machine polisher £30.00 but takes mop heads pink and white and lambs wool mit (m8 tread i think) (what the local body shop has) its only rotary not dual action. it brings the car up nice but was thinking of better as some of the pics show your guys cars :)

this is the kinda fella you want to get then, not the old disc shaped one with two handles on the outer diameter (ie halfords and woolies specials)
Its a silverline,

the pads are actually thicker than the one shown, it must have been pressed flat.

and my actual one, they are only 31 quid from the manufactureres website, the autoglym pads etc all fit also as they use the same velcro back type pads, 6 and 7 inch.

check the detailing section on here, failing that www.detailingworld.com, there are some really anal people about who can give you the exact steps to a shiney clean car, I usually wash, dry used g3 the first time i used it to remove scratches and swirls then some of the meguiars products, car looks well after, im sure there are more long winded and better ways though,
