Just a quick update on my previous thread (http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=43692&highlight=slough)

I'm not sure i actually mentioned it in the original thread, but whilst i had my car in with them i asked them to check the clutch as it had been sticking and feeling like it was 'clicking' when i let it up. They told me it was because the pedal was catching on the mat, which i didnt believe but left it at that (i just wanted to get my car out of there by that point!)

Last night my clutch went, when the AA came out they took a look at it and said that there is a plastic clip that connects the clutch pedal to the rest of the mechanism which is held in place by a piece of metal (i am no mechanic so excuse the lame description!) they told me the metal had sheared off and by the looks of it, had been sheared off for quite some time.....

My conclusion (whether right or wrong) ... SMC didn't even look at it when i asked them to, and if they had they wouldn't have known any more about it than me!!

I would advise everyone to steer clear of them, but if you have had a good experience then let me know (they are by far the most convenient garage for me to use!)

Cheers

James

SMC are completely incompetent. That clip broke on my clutch pedal and SMC fixed it as the car was still under warranty so they have definitely had that problem on a car there before. I believe the pedal boxes are prone to disintegrating also so they should have checked out your clutch. My acr is now unser warranty and I take it to an independent specialist. I pay a lot less and know the mechnics are competent. I will never use SMC for anything.

I've been reading through these threads for the last 10 mins and have come to the conclusion that I must be the only person to have had decent service from SMC! I bought the car from them nearly two years ago, they did the 10k service as part of the sale (it was 9 months old with 2.5k on it) and I've had it serviced there every time since, including the 40k one last week. My only criticism is that it wasn't cheap, but then the prices are on the wall and there weren't any hidden costs, so I can't argue really! I get a 10% discount cos I bought the car from there too. Even the valet job was excellent this time round.

I did have to take the car to Watford a few weeks ago when it started playing up in the cold, but they changed a relay and its been fine since - covered by warranty and sorted with no fuss - so a thumbs up for them too.

It sounds like I've just been lucky with both stealers... :funk:

Why go to a dealer that you state yourself is exspensive for a service when an independant garage will do alot cheaper job and probably better to.

Just wanted to make sure they had no grounds to complain that it wasn't dealer maintained if I'd had a warranty issue... which, it turned out, I did...
And yeah I have read the thread elsewhere on the forum about the EU legislation which states that you don't have to have your car serviced at a main dealer, but having seen the number of issues we've all had with them, I'd rather not have to try to argue with them about it!!

That was the last service before the warranty expires in October anyway, it'll definitely be independents all the way from now on!
