Hi.

Had my wheels turned yesterday and noticed that the tred in the middle of the tyre had warn significantly more than the rest of the tyre on the drivers side.

It's about 2inch that's warn in the middle.

I have had outside and inside of a tyer wear down and got alignment but not the middle.

Well that one tyre was at 39psi, would over inflation by 7psi cause that?

Oddly I don't believe that tyre was over inflated to start with. After I did high speed at a runway strip, the flat tyre light came on and I found it was over inflated.

Must have been over inflated to start with? Or is it possible that the high pressure was caused from driving at high speed?

They are P-Zero rossos

it has to be either over inflated or a bad tyre, I can't think why else it would wear in the middle and not the edges. It's good to have a decent digital gauge as the ones at garages can be out.
I think your tyre must've been already over because it would take a fair few miles to wear it down. Don't think you would do that in a couple of strip runs.

It does sound like over inflated, don't forget don't check tyre pressures when they are warm they will read higher, likewise if you pump them up when cold then the weather goes hot they can read higher.

I must have been running around on it for a while.

Odd how I got the flat tyre warning directly after and non of the tyres were flat and 1 over inflated.

wear in the middle : over inflated / driving too fast for too long.
wear on edges : under inflated, wheel allignment (caster, toe, camber) depending on how it feels when you touch it.

EDIT : i fill mine with nitrogen as it shouldnt change pressure when conditions change.

The tyre warning works off the Abs sensors so if the rotational speed of a wheel changes because of over inflation you will get a warning. It does not know if you have a flat. It can also go off after having a couple of tyres on.

Ok guys.

Thanks all for your input, it's much appreciated.

I may go with nitrogen fill I think.

39psi sounds VERY high. 32 maybe 34psi at most up front, lower on the rear. Check the label on the fuel cap for the correct figures.
