Turning off night lights

I'm interested if it is possible to turn off the main headlights on Leon Mk2 at night? The switch wheel does nothing, the main headlights turn off only when I turn off the engine. It's not that I would drive at night with the lights off, it's just a bit irritating that the off position doesn't do what it says it does and I want it to do. I have this feeling of it "being broken"

Do you have the convenience functions, lights on when you unlock etc.
I have a MK2 and the lights will turn off when switched off and operate sidelights altho the DRLs will be on.

If I leave the night lights in the on position, they will shut off automatically after a minute after I lock the car, and turn back on when I unlock them.

This sounds like the coming home and leaving home convenience functions. There should be an option in the MFD to turn these off if you don't want them.

As for the lights being on all the time, there is a coding option in the BCM for having the headlights as DRLs. It sounds like that might be turned on. If that's the case you'll need something like VCDS or OBDeleven to turn it off.

Thank you for the reply. Question about convenience option. I have a preface lift Leon, and can't really navigate the MFD the sam way. Is there a way to access it and how, in the pre facelift versions pls?

If your headlights are the daytime running lights I don't think you can switch them off with the engine running.

I have, what I assume, are daylights (smaller bulbs set widest apart) which I can turn on or off during the day. The problem are xenon night lights (dipped lights) in the middle. Once it gets dark they I can't turn them off anymore. I have automatic lightning feature on the selection wheel but I'm not sure what it does because the car acts as if it is constantly in that mode.

Well sounds like you have DRL set to headlights. On my mfd I can turn DRL off and there are settings via the obd codes to change which lights are effectively the DRL.
The DRL will be on with the ignition but I thought that if you had separate DRL they would be the ones on.
You can try a factory reset via the mfd to see if that works.
