Turning off esp/traction control

Hi guys,

Had the car a couple of months and I would say the main gripe I have is oven when you turn the esp etc off it's still there in the back ground.

Is there any way to turn it off completely? Hold the button for 5s or is it just something I need to live with.

Why do you want to turn it off? Surely you don't do that many track days for it bother you so much?

Pardon my ignorance then, but why would anyone want to turn off the traction control for day to day driving!??

In wet conditions it does a great job however, like 4 wheel drive it puts you in a false sense of security as it does its job well, when its switched off you have to be alot more careful therefore you tend to go slower and IMO gain more feel of the level of grip you have. . .

Well, seeing as it's a safety feature designed to protect not only yourself but other road users/pedestrians as well, then one would imagine there is a pretty good reason for wanting to disable it for normal driving.

In wet conditions it does a great job however, like 4 wheel drive it puts you in a false sense of security as it does its job well, when its switched off you have to be alot more careful therefore you tend to go slower and IMO gain more feel of the level of grip you have. . .

Anybody who has hit a patch of diesel on a motorway/sliproad etc will I'm sure back me up when I say there's very little you can do to prepare you for it. I certainly owe a lot to the ESP when I did it.

can a mod delete this thread please.

Im not going through the in and outs of why I want to turn it if I just want to know if I can.

G.P. its off to a point but if you push hard enough it'll kick in even when turned off. Now if you have turned if off (of which it should be fully) and you push the car, the smallest of driver drivers streeting throttle an brake are needed, if the car all of a sudden deciedes it doesn't like it and the esp etc kicks in.......... its can be a horrible and nasty surprise

I've heard this can be done by removing specific fuse. I don't know which one however. it will disable abs as well though.

What's with the attitude?
I'll have a look and see if I can find any info. At the same time I'll see if I can pull anything up on disconnecting the airbag and turning off the seatbelt warning light.

lol even with traction control a golf mk6 which i guess leon has the same system lets you have a play around, its pretty good, i can wheel spin and handbrake turn but when too much understeer comes then it helps out just when its needed to stay safe :p
