i AM GETTING A WHISTLING NOISE WHEN I REV THE CAR ABOVE 1400 RPM, I'M ASSUMING ITS THE TURBO IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO STOP THIS IRRITATING NOISE. ON A FEW OCCASSIONS PASSENGERS IN THE CAR HAVE EVEN THOUGHT IT WAS A POLICE SIREN IN THE DISTANCE.???

My freetrack also does this, I took it to 2 SEAT dealers, they both told me it would not be replaced unless there was something mechanically wrong.

I booked it in, they investigated & concluded that there was nothing wrong. :wtf:
Therefore a turbo replacement would not be possible under warranty.

When I drive down the street, people turn their heads to see where the whistling noise is coming from. Its been doing this for 6 months now, thankfully it's not getting worse.

I think most turbos make some kind of a whistle, if its pretty loud though then the first port of call is usually to check all boost hoses for leaks or splits to see if thats the cause

Its a peculiarity of the BKD engine. It comes and goes - smoe days you noticwe , others you don't. I think it depends on the type of journeys done. More noticvable after weeks of commuter pootling.

Yes, it's something we've grown to ignore. Never heard a turbo car like it before. There's the usual turbo whistle, but there's also the trapped ghost/owl whooooing.

My local dealer said that when the 2.0 first came out, they were told to replace under warranty, but now time has passed, it just seems a peculiar thing and not reliably associated with imminent turbo failure.

If it gets really loud then chances are your turbo is on its way out ( i have had 2 go) but otherwise as people have said it is a whiny turbo anyway on the 2.0l.

Mine doesn't come & go, its always there, in the low gears just above 1400rpm.

But now you say its gone? Must be a different noise.

I wouldn't describe mine as a whine noise like others do (have heard the whine on youtube) mines like a whistle, it rises & falls with the revs.

BKD is the 2.0 TDI
Its a whine in the sense of a siren - a bit like police cars and fire engines used to sound.
As you say - at low revs

BKD is the PD140, the PD170 is BMN i think. Both of which are 2.0 TDI's but the PD170 has a different turbo that is not known to fail like the PD140's do

I have the BKD, i get bit of a whine but its not of any concern at the moment. Only really here it when i lift off and coast

the BKC, BXE and BKD all share the same trait. One thing i've noticed with the turbos that make these noises is the inlet impellars on the turbo all seem to be slightly damaged - the fix is a new turbo but due to seat and their warrenty system being w4nk you've never seen getting a replacment unless you pay big bucks.

why these turbos are slightly damaged and how long it will go untill break?

it might never break but the only thing i can think of is its been caused by either a loss in oil pressure or debris somehow entering the intake system?
