Going to invest in a trolley this weekend.
This is going to be a silly Q  but where under the car do you place the jack to lift the car? Same place as where you place the jack that comes with the car??

Thanks.

Not unless you want to crush your sills, lift under subframes only,my sills are slightly damaged because some idiot previously jacked up in the wrong place. Andy

Where is the right place?

I always jack the front up on the main subframe to body mounting, you cant miss it ,its big bolt and washer facing straight up just level with the back of the wheel. The rear i jack up on the rear beam ,but be carefull you don't jack up on brake cables/pipes. Andy

Which is why I jack up on the point where the rear suspension bolts to the shell... only the handbrake cable to get in the way then!

with my cheapo jack, its difficult to get to a decent point so i have to use the skoda jack on the sill then stick my proper jack under onto the subframe, bit of a pian but the jack i want is well over 100 quid

The jack I bought a few years ago for my Mk2 golf wont go under the cupra as its too low with the side skirts on its a rear pain, so check that the jack you are buying will fit. Just inside from the in boot jack point at the sill is there not a hardened area which has a ripple effect ? is this not the actual jacking point for trolley and hoist jacks ?

No davy - it's just the floorpan

I tend to raise mine on the scissor jack enough to get the trolley jack under the sill as I'm not forking out for a low jack, when I can do it perfectly well

Mark,
when you say thats not a hardened area then you say you put the trolley jack under the sill do you mean you put it under the suspension to body arm where the bolt is ? All the older VWs had a hardened area just in from the sill jacking point I am surprised that newer cars such as the Cupra dont have one.

yeap, mine ( a cheap and cheerful one from Halfrauds) clears the sill by mm, so I try and locate it between the wheel and bodyworked and jack from that. Then a set of axle stands for safety!

btw- this Halfords one will lift my Leon, but it had trouble lifting the Staples2Naples Carlton we had. It comes in a Black plastic box and is yellow and black and has a handle. Not sure anything else, but knowing me, its the cheapest, so probably get the next modle up if Halfrauds is your only choice in your town

RE: Leon
Guys I still don't understand where the jacking points for a trolley jack are and also where i can put the axle stands.
Where is the subframe. I have used the oem jacking points on the sill with the Leon jack.
Is it safe to Jack one side up (420mm total lift) axle it and then do the same the other, am i in danger of twisting the chasis.
I was all set to change my turbo today but couldn't even decide how to lift it correctly:rolleyes: .

In front of the engine tray is a study arrangement of steel work which i believe has parts of the suspension connected to it (also i think the engine bolts to it) and is directly below the engine. Can i jack up in the center of this and place axle stands either side of it where the metalwork narrows and connects to the wheel area.

I think all garages & tyre fitting places should have these slim racing jacks... number of times grease monkeys have crashed trolley jacks into the side skirts, pulling on the wheel arches to scrape a trolley jack underneath, then lift on the sill because it doesn't have a long enough reach... makes me mad! [:@]

Been considering getting myself a Michelin racing jack similar to yours (this one). I have 2 spare wheels so might get new tyres fitted "off the car" and change them over myself.

i seem to remember that some jacks have an adapter on the lift part to lift from the sills.it has a groove across its face and the sill lip fits into it,and the car can be lifted without bending the lip,and with such a wide lifting face spreads the weight well.
very nice tool there btw.where from btw?
