The dealer rang to tell me that my new Seat Ibiza FR was built a week early (yayy!)

He then went on to say that it takes 3-4 weeks for it to arrive in the UK, is it possible to track shipping progress? (This was over a week ago).

There was a previous post but I can't remember where!

On another note I have been practising with AutoGlym, the results are fantastic!

I can't wait to pick it up, I'll stick some photos on here once it's had a wash.

Your dealer must be able to tell you which transporter ship it is on and then you can check up on that ships progress using one of the "marine movements" websites. So, today's job MUST BE TO GET THAT INFO FROM YOUR DEALER, anyone in that dealership will have access to that info!

Good, but just think how far that ship will have travelled by the time that dealer replies to your email, though they might have done that already!

For me it was "too little too late" - I had clued myself up on how to do this, with my wife's new Polo, when the VW app messaged her with something like "it is on the way", instead of contacting the dealer, I started searching for transporter ships leaving South Africa (all 5 door Polos built there), after about a week I was just frustrated and found a reason to end up at the dealer and asked for shipping details - by the time I got back home and used that info, the transporter ship was on its way from Zeebrugge to Emden - so I missed tracking it mainly as I was looking in the wrong place, I had guessed that it would turn left and come via Cape Horn - wrong it came via the Suez canal after some stops at Arab countries!! (completely gutted!!)

He contacted me back saying it hasn't left port yet and he's going to check again next week and let me know once he knows, he said it's a busy time for car orders?

Time to waste/spend too much time on the port of Santander website to see what is scheduled to leave when, and to see what transporter ships are in there, quite a few are "City of -----" - but there are other ones used as well. Oh a bit of a game really but why not, the information is out there, just getting the ship's name makes things so much easier!

It might depend on where your dealer is based, I think that there are maybe 4 or 5 ports of entry that VW group use in UK, so keep it going, if you look at a few of these regularly used transporter ships you should see a trend for each one, ie its normal route, or round trip.

I tended to use two websites, the marinetraffic - I think, one for port arrivals/departures and a vesslfinder ?? to see where that ship has been recently.

I will check the 2 websites out and see if I can find anything, I'll let you know! Cheers, does it take long for the ships to get to the UK?

You would need to check some earlier/previous trips to see where they stop off at, I'd guess Zeebrugge before UK and depends on where your port of entry is for that dealer. Budget for a sea speed of 15 knots on the longer section.

Checked this morning! Autoprogress is in dock now, and is heading towards Zeebrugge again i believe so hopefully this is the one! Will the vehicle change ships there or just go to GB after stopping off?

Good news, no I don't think that it will end up changing ships, though at peak times these logistics companies that provide that service will be doing make is needed to cut costs and delivery times - and that sometimes means everything from VAG for Northern Europe gets taken to Embden for sorting out into specific countries.

Check over where that ship has just been, ie its entire previous trip, that should let you see what route it typically takes as they are not HUGE transporters like the ones that come in from South Africa or America.

I was in the same predicament last early Dec. My ship was 'City of Oslo..' tracked its progress from Barcelona to UK...due to bad weather it went to Embden (germany) first...:censored: then it returned to Port Sheerness in Kent.

Some of my friends were taking the micky, by reminding me of another vehicle carrier that ran aground called Hoegh Osaka...so not funny...anyway...

Journey took about it week, I think it stopped in north Africa, Lisbon along the way. Took another 2-3 working day for them to register the car etc, car was driven down, had 170 miles on clock by the time it reached me.

Hope this helps!

There have been other car transporter ships in trouble, when I was checking up for "Ibiza" I discovered some picture of the "City of Rome/Paris/Rotterdam" after she collided with another ship, nothing hugely serious, but I'd expect enough to dislodge at least some of her cargo which must have been annoying for some people, plus lost time while it was getting sorted out again.

My vehicle arrived last night! :D how long do you think I would have to wait before it's transported to the dealership?

My experience, ship docked (from the tracking the correct ship, hee hee) 7th Dec, dealer got car on 9th (they sent me a pic, no numberplate, still wrapped inside in plastic and foam bits on door etc from transport) delivered to me on 14th Wed AM. They could have delivered on Tue as well, but I was out of town.

So about a week +/- couple of days. Maybe if you collect yourself from dealer, could be earlier, maybe within 3-4 days. Were you eligible for 1yr free insurance?

Btw (and this surprised me) nothing vibrates nor rattles in my Ibiza thus far....but maybe lower the tyre pressures a bit...1-2 PSI, or you will rattle

Rude haha! Well at it's a 17 plate I can't have it till the 1st March anyway  Because the free insurnce is only if your over 25 years old on the FR's I wasn't entitled to it as i'm 24, annoying but they did include it for roughly £400 for the year! Bargain!

I'm hoping to pick it up next week if I can. Like on the 1st would be nice

Oh I see, I always thought you could still get free insurance but must have black-box. Well I hope they / you push to get your car before the next tax brackets come in.
