Hi everyone

I am going to be buying a detachable towbar soon for my saloon exeo and I've been told that I need to install a bypass relay.

I've been looking online and people state you need to run a cable from the boot to the car battery.

Does anyone know if you can tap in to a live feed from the amplifier or similar? Imagine running the cable to the battery would mean a lot of hassle and pulling off trim.

Thanks

How much did you pay for all of it?

I recently fitted a Witter removable towbar and bypass relay to my ST - Although not difficult, the amount of trim (and bumper - over 20 fixings...) was incredible - all the trim in the boot (sides, floor etc) - then all the trim from back to front on RHS to run the wire to the fuse box.
Sounds like the dedicated loom is a better way...

took me ages to do it - and its quite hard to get all the trim clips back properly..

Dave.

I have a Witter AD44Q detachable fitted to mine with 7 pin electrics. The neck was deficient when I bought the car, and I didn't know until I went to look for it under the spare :(

So I drove to a local tow bar specialists in Stockport, (North Manchester) and I was told, after the chap crawled under my car, that it was a Thule, and was given the part number for the detachable neck I needed, 9555211, which I ordered from Thule UK at a cost of £147.

As you've already noted, I do not have a Thule towbar fitted.

When the Thule neck arrived, I realised on test fit, that it was the wrong one. So the next Saturday I drove back over to Stockport in a rage to confront the muppets. I was met not by the moron who told me I had a Thule, but by a different chap, who after climbing underneith pronounced it a Witter, even stating that it had that in huge lettering on it.

Luckily, I had the moron's hand writing, so had a stick to beat them with.

So I got the correct neck at cost, and I also bought a two bike Thule detachable bike rack at 25% off in order to compensate me.

However, I'm still the proud owner of a Thule detachable neck I don't need. Apparently this same neck fits loads of Thule towbars, but Thule refuse to give me a list, in order that I might sell it. All I know is that it fits the A4's and the Exeo's

I also recently fitted a fixed swan neck bar and electrics module - as others have said the only frustrating bit was removing all the interior trim along the offside of the car.

Still need to get it recoded with VCDS, if anyone knows of someone in Kent that can do it please let me know.

I bought a used Westfalia detachable swan neck on ebay in great condition including a dedicated 7 pin electrics kit for £70. It was only a few months old and looked new.

I had it fitted by Wesfalia towbar fitting centre in swansea £120 including coding. very pleased with it. :D
