Who has what?

Im this close to ordering the Thule Euroway Cycle carrier 945/944 not sure if I want 2 or 3 bikes on the back(only occasionally take a 3rd bike) but then theres the Euroclassic looks similar but is more expensive.... does anyone have either of these? do they fit in the boot (if your riding for a day you dont wanna come back and find its been nicked!)

Do the bikes rock about ? can you lock the pedals down so they wont scratch the other bikes on the trailer?

Im not a 100% on the detachable towbar either as I dont think it can hold as much weight as a normal towbar....???

the most tricky bit was liftin the bumper off on my own, if you have a friend it will make life easier! no special tool just the usual socket set, torx drives and screwdrives! i might still have a link to the fitting instruction some where if that helps. took best part of 2hours to get it all fitted on my own!

Thanx mate, the 4 mounting bolts that hold the towbar inside the car (slides in and you secure somewhere inside the car) where do you do this?

It seems that this towbar can only hold 50kg so with the thule carrier weighing either 15 or 18kg and 2 or 3 bikes coming in at anywhere between 11kg and 14kg gonna be well close to the max limit.

the mounting points are inside the rear wheel arches. you take off the plastic shields and you can see the holes in the chassis where you bolt it to.

ive had 2 bikes on mine no problem and there are a lot of people on here using this towbar and the thurl rack and i have not yet come across one that has broken! plus if you think about it a bike rack is a cross between a small trailer and something pushing straight down! ;)

I have the Thule Euroway 3 bike carrier.reguarly take 2 bikes, sometimes 3.Never had any problems.Does'nt fit in the boot without one of back seat down but it does lock onto towbar with a key.Would have to be removed with an angle grinder to get off without unlocking. The Euro Classic folds up even smaller to get it the car boot.

That 50kg limit - that'll be referring to the maximum weight that should be applied to the towbar when stationary. One the move the force pushing down will increase over bumps, etc - imagine a caravan getting pitched up and down along a bumpy road: that will put a much higher force down through the towbar. So basically a 15kg rack plus 2-3 14kg bikes will be more than fine!

Surely though that would then exceed the maximum static weight when on the move?

Pulled the electronic bits out of the bags and tried to marry up the plugs and they dont fit! Did anyone else come across this? The Thule plug doesnt fit inside the towbar socket.. :(

^wtf

Looks like the bike rack connection is the wrong one - possibly a continental one (IIRC they're slightly different to the UK 7-pin).

Just checked mine: the socket on my car is the same as yours (on the right in your pic). But my Thule rack has a 7-pin that matches up perfectly. Seems it's your rack mate :(

the bike rack has the 13pin continental plug on it. you will need to get the adaptor to make it work. you will also have o cheak which side the fog light is on as it kind of looks lik eyou have the continental rack!

edit: is the tow bar still good?

I have a euroclassic with 4th bike adaptor. Taken 4 heavy mountain bikes to verbier on it at 95mph all the way. no problems.

I think the most interesting comment is from a friend who has a cheaper rack - he would buy one of these if he was to do it again.

i have previously looped the strap round the boot hinges and run them around the side of the glass that worked. i was jus concious of the fact it might pop the rear window!

Spoke to towequipe.com and they said I needed the 13pin adapter, I was like the advert states it doesnt need it. SO i got it half price ;)
