That IS how it should be, I fitted my coilovers just after christmas and reacted the same way........... oh fook what have i done wrong?

The answer is nothing, you could probably half the gap between the top of the shocker and the body of the car by replacing the top mounts.
I paid just short of a tenner for the pair (staff discount):)

Well im sure mine wasn't like that before i changed them
I would have thought that if its not clamped down tight then whats setting the camber
cos its free to move around??

And they are brand new top mounts

if you are referring (can't see pics) to a gap between the top cap and the strut top then it has to have a gap, this setup has been used on mk2/3/4 golfs and some polos and ibizas.

if you open the bonnet, start the car and turn the steering lock to lock while watching the cup, you will see why it has to have a gap.

don't worry it's all perfectly normal, there is no force acting on this part. it's just to prevent the strut falling out when the wheels are off the ground.

What ARB's do you have again?
Did you have these fitted before the coilovers or all at the same time?
I've just changed bushes and fitted a 23mm front ARB with my 28mm rear ARB ans S3 strutt brace, it feels sooooo much better now, even with 92,000 miles suspension

Well I've just stripped out the swing arm bushes and the top mounts and replaced them but still have a knock. Next stop ball joints and drop links for me
