rite so im on a run way just to clear this up, my mk3 cupra is completly standard except from porker rims with 195/40/16, seeing wot my top speed would b and i got 145 'ish' mph which i thought was pretty impressive. then i fit a piper x viper kit and i only get 135 mph. do u think this is due to the air filter? also my engine managment light is on but i havnt lost boost except for the top end got no faults just needs resetting. any1 else had this?

iv heard the piper viper kits can be restictive, if i was u i smooth your aibox out and run a green cotton panel air filer see if that makes any difference

hope that was on a private road.. be careful about posting these sort of things on forums too, not because everyone will think you're a ******** (which im sure they will :)) but police have been known to get involved over claims on forums. seen it before...

so be careful!! :)

i was on a run way honestly!! i posted this to see the reason 4 the difference in speed cause of the airfilter, im not boasting how fast the car is cus its standard and theres loads of people wiv engine mods that wud think that was slow in comparision. obviously i dont drive foot to the floor everywere but just wondered if ne1 wud no y there was a difference of 10mph thought that was alot really?

the filters are really oily and not good for the MAF. if you had an engine warning light on, then maybe; without you noticing, your car was overfueling, or underfueling etc. could be anything

i'd get a greencotton or at least a filter which isn't oily

you might find that the air pipe was being squished with pressure therefore restricting the amount of air because it was sucking so much, or plain and simply heat soak depending on cooling to it...

145 on the speedo is probably actually about 125

Can airfilters really affect the car's acceleration/top speed that much then, ive been told to get one of those long chrome pipes and a green cotton air filter to locate down in the wing ? Currently have an enclosed BMC

yeah speedo's are fairly good even at those speeds, mine over reads by 6 mph all the way thru the range of the speedo. most air filters restrict top speed from what i've found, there better lower down the rev range.
