Timing chain on 1.2 engine Write to Watchdog!

Have written to Watchdog regarding the problem a lot of us have had with the timing chain slipping on the 1.2 Ibiza engine during a service. This appears to be quite a common occurance and I urge everyone to write to Watchdog with their stories and how much it has cost you. Hopefully after getting nowhere with SEAT customer services, this approach might work!!

This morning got a standard letter saying that my details are being stored on the database at Watchdog. If everyone writes to them they will probably start to investigate!!

can you give more detail why it slips during servicing?

I can't work that out either, can't see what servicing has to do with it apart from LACK of servicing

Yes it is a common problem and IMO people should be getting the 1.2 cars in for a check even if it costs a few quid just for prevention rather than cure
Then get it in wrighting that they reckon it's good to go

From what Im told its down the tensioners and the vecoity of the oil dropping. So baisicly get the tensioners changed all the time and change the oil all the time as well and your fine. There is also a kit to fix it, but as said seat do a good will gesture for this as well so dont really think watchdog are going to help you much lmao

seat brought out some longer chain guards which were supposed to give it the chain more support...in my opinion its just wear and tear.

Also a big factor is oil capacity.

The 1.2 holds around 3 litres of oil, most of the time when a chain slips its been because the oil level has been allowed to get to low, the chain tensioner goes slack as its fed by oil pressure and the chain slips.

As the engines are allowed to use a litre of oil per 600 miles before its considered excessive you can see not keeping an eye on the level regularly can be the issue.
