Hi,

Just spent about half an hour searching the forum if theres a post already but couldnt find one. Apologies if I was blind and missed a sticky or something..

I have a 2007 Seat Ibiza 1.2L Petrol. Have done about 53000 on the clock and runs smoothly. No weird noises other than sometimes when doing a cold start, revs a bit higher than usual but dont think its anything to do with the timing chain.

Anyways, couldn't find any info on my manual so looking online and saw people saying 4 years or 60k whichever comes first.. Rang a mobile mechanic and he suggested I need a timing belt (he was confident, its same as a vw polo) and quoted 250 -300 for timing belt and waterpump.

My question is, do I have a timing chain or belt ? When looking at GSF car parts all I saw was timing kits according to my reg so im thinking I have a chain ? (KL07 MXD, if anyone else wants to look it up ) ..and also read online that timing chain tend to go on for much longer than belt so not sure how urgent the job is..

Any advice on where to go (other than the dealers ) and rough price would be great..

Thanks in advance.

I have an 02 1.2 and it has a timing chain so you don't need to do anything unless you have problems with the engine

Do timing chain not have recommended service intervals ? I'm worried as I don't want to break something that's running perfectly fine also on the other hand, don't want to carry on and destroy my engine if/when it snaps..

you have a timing chain. supposed to be a 'lifetime' part (not at all sure what that means), so no service schedule. higher revs on start up is just automatic version of the choke, as long as it settles down there's nothing to worry about.

my daughter has the 1.2 polo (same engine) and the timing chain can be heard when the car starts then it gets into place (tooth slipping) sounds fine, mechanic recommends it'll need replacing before too long, her car's close to 100,000 miles.

i have the same car as you, '08 reg, no noise from the chain, runs lovely. there's no guarantees that they won't go without warning but they're not a service part.

Maybe that's why there was no info on timing chain in the handbook..guess ill leave it alone for a while..
