well you can try with the brakes on and a large leaver bar but a buzz gun would be so much better/easier/quicker

give it a go

not sure if this is the same but when i changed the front shocks on a cailbra you'll find the drive shaft nut is done up to a very high torque around 160lbs, you need a tool to stop the drive shaft turning while you try to undo the nut i found the easiest way was to put a long screw driver though the brake caliber into the vents in the disk as it then locks the drive shift

you'll need the top mounts mate. i honestly dont see the point paying £400+ on coilovers when the cheap ones are just as good and if they do break they have a good warranty on them.

those are the coilovers i had on my mk2 golf gti, fantastic bit of kit, never had one problem with and the fit was spot on. couldnt ask for more. they also have extremely good after sale service should something go wrong with them.

i cant rate them enough if im honest

can i not take the top mounts off my standats shocks or is this pointless?

get new ones from the dealers. IIRC, about £40 for the pair
they have been known to collapse when people have tried to dismantle the suspension setup to re-use them!
this way you can build up the shock & spring assembly so you can just stick them straight on, will save you a ouple of hours ;)
IIRC, the part numbers have been posted in the MK.4 section before, a search will find them ;)

all ordered today from venom motorsport they seem very good and wil have them to me in the morning! i have never seen what the top mounts look like so i may do the back myself and take it to a specialist to do the front as you need special tools, wil have a look and see how easy it looks lol
