'Ticking' from Purge Valve...Please Help!

My engine warning light has recently come on, after asking a friend to use his diognostics machine to get me the codes we got back P0443 Evap emission control system purge valve c fault, p0420 catalyst efficiency bank 1 and p0501 veh speed sensor A range/performance. :(
When im driving along and the engine is in gear i get a ticking that changes speed depending on how fast i am travelling, when the car is stationary with the bonnet up engine running there is an electrical type ticking noise coming from the purge valve.
I have been to a breakers today and bought a new purge valve hoping this would solve the problem but sadly I still have this annoying problem:cry:......does anybody have any ideas what this could be? I have also checked the fuses just in case.

Iv got an mot next week and dont want my little beauty to get her 1st red card!!

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give :D

The ticking noise is coming from the purge valve that sits in the carbon cannister near the washer bottle yes, when i disconnect the electrical connector the ticking goes away....I say ticking, i once had a split ht lead and the spark was jumping out onto my coil pack, that is the noise exactly, sounds like electric jumping..... but when im driving if i am in neutral i have no noise no matter on my speed, in gear the noise will get faster and more high pitched depending on my speed but that sounds like a rubbing, not grinding though....i thought maybe it was some form of air leak maybe but im totally baffled by it!

Thanks again :)

the carbon cannister can be removed all you need to do is :

resistor (same as what is used in the n249 bypass)
follow the pipe that plugs into the tank and remove it at the t-piece and block it off

job done no ticking noise

so i remove the purge valve and cannister completely? Will this not affect the car getting through an mot? Im not a mechanic but i dont mind giving things a go as long as im sure of what im doing and i know im not going to make it worse lol.....thanks very much for your replys

will not have any effect on emissions only reason its there was for the american market so can be removed you need a resistor still and you will get a fault code now and again but if you plan to get your car mapped it can be mapped out so no fault code

they tick.. whats your problem with that?
ticking is normal operation as its switched on and off to suck fuel vapour out of the tank and into the tip

check for airleaks in your general vac pipes... more than likely thats setting some code going

Cheers for the help guys, i had a split in one of the pipes, sorted that and the engine light hasnt come back on yet so fingers crossed.....i know the purge valve usually ticks but this is louder than ever before, you can hear it over the engine....i have also investigated the rubbing noise when under load and i now think this could possibly be somewthing to do with the clutch.......not too fussed with it at the mo, decided to get a new seat...mine was starting to show her age so iv gone for a 59 leon fr. Pick it up at the weekend, cant wait!!

Thanks again

I have the same ticking noise and have been told the same that its normal operation as im a new Seat owner i was concerned at first but now my mind has been put to rest knowing this is normal.

Turns out the noise i was hearing whilst driving was completely different and not linked to the purge valve too, that was a bearing in my gear box. A mechanic did say my purge valve was very loud however and suggested changing the charcoal cannister but my little ibiza has sold now and i have moved on to a leon fr to play with. Hope you enjoy the ibiza as much as i did! :)
