Been thinking about getting a dash cam. How do they work, do you set record when you set off and then after perhaps a month if you have no use of the video then format the memory. Does it just plug into cig?

Most can be set to loop (writes over itself) for a set time, mines is 5 mins up to 20 mins or can just record cont for 3 hours on mine (64 Gb card HD quality) As I use it for the bike too mine has an inbuilt battery, so when in the car I just plug it into the cig socket and that keeps the battery topped (no going to reboot when the car stop/starts either). Mine was not cheap as it is a top of the range action camera (Garmin Virb Elite) which I also use for other activities and the picture quality is the best, you only get what you pay for.:D

I dont mind paying for something if its quality and fits the bill... what i'm personally after is one that I cant see (or at least isnt like a satnav stuck on the screen)... so small enough to sit behind say the rear view mirror and leave it there and forget about it.

Look at iPixi for in car dash cameras. I have one excellent quality, software as provided is great.
