Telford ay it...
I remember james doing it. Me and my mate were talking about this yesterday. Its a mod he wants to do if he buys my car. Some angled brackets mounted to the underside of the splitter would be best. Make them for easy/quick removal ;)

Close but no cigar - I'm going to get a new bumper so we'll see if it actually works (on the old one). Here's a clue - now you see it, now you don't ;)

Quick update in the main post regarding the MOT and airbag light. If you can't be bothered looking all the way back there - here's a summary:

MOT - Failed.
Headlight beam angles need adjusting (obv. as they're from a 1.4)
Offside light was too loose, as was a brake hose
New pads needed on rear brakes
Illegal rear plate (whoops)

£80 for parts and labour and a free re-test on Thursday (tomorrow) - less hassle than doing it myself for the money to be honest.

Airbag light is on though - swapped the sensor, checked the wire that runs on the underside of the steering cupboard..unless something's loose in the actual steering wheel? Any ideas?

Afraid I'm not joking, I'm 19 and recently passed my test (started driving October last year) - online quotes were over £3000 but Bell were about £1000 cheaper. They wanted about £2250. Called them up and for 10months accelerated NCB policy (if paid in one go) about £1650. Even though it's alot, I'm still dead chuffed.

Today my airbox is going back on and road tax should be available :)

MOT - Failed:
Illegal rear plate (whoops)

The MOT guy didn't actually fail on the plate as he saw the legal one in the boot and just said swap it over

What was wrong with the plate? Was it one of those aluminium pressed German plates??

It wasn't a pressed plate, no. Infact I think the lettering was raised with a 3D effect or something like that. Either way it was a show plate but if you get a pressed plate just swap it back for the MOT. I saw someone's BMW M3 has a plain black plate but when any light shines on it you can see the lettering. It's pretty damn cool.

M0rk, the 1.4 is supposed to be sold to a friend but he's messing me around. The interior is absolutely mint and it's a shame. So if he wants to pratt about I might just steal some of the interior for the GTI to tidy her up a bit. Mr. Pink was interested in the 1.4 as he drove the GTI and fell in love with it. He'd put a new exhaust on and drop a 2L engine in it so wasn't too worried about the hole in the exhaust. So it might wind up for sale on here :)

Edit: YES! Won a new front end for the car!

Lucky ebay find Jake! There was a rear bumper and splitter going for £15 plus £25 postage. I won the bumper, front splitter, fog lights, fog light surrounds and the front grilles; plus he's going to colour code it for me for £60. Absolute bargain! So now I have a spare fog light and front grilles, spare tail light and when my lights come a spare headlight. Hooray!

Airbag light's still on though.

Well last night I hit into some trouble; when I went to fit the airbox the metal plate it sits on is bent up, and the box itself is missing a rubber foot. The sensor is missing a clip too. It's not all bad news though, the CD player works (but the radio reception is poo - aerial adapter?) :)

Well, here's a nice update. The metal plate was bent back down using the ancient and somewhat highly skilled technique of..standing on it. This time my Dad was giving me a hand. We routed a few cables differently so they didn't hang on the fanbelt or too near the radiator fan and cable tied the slack to the chassis. The front end came off and the new one went on. All I need is some black mesh and a new grille (plus fixings) and that's the front end complete! The lights were replaced with the real Cupra ones (twins) and my foggies wired up. Now I just need to figure out how to turn those on *ahem* And my coilovers *finally* arrived.

I did alot of shopping around and that was my lowest quote; remembering though I didn't start to drive until I was 19!
