So my 13 month old LCR has just started making a clicking sound as I drive along, I can hear it quite clearly when the driver's window is down.

Its a regular click click click definatly on the drivers side, i think its coming from the back wheel. At first I thought it was a stone in the tire taping the road but I've pulled out any stones thet where there and it still happens. I'm thinking bearings now.

It sounds just like someone tap dancing.

Are there any bearings that could conceivbly go on a car this old and cause this symptom? Anything else you can think of? It's extremely annoying!

Ian.

Tyres checked for stones and fine, has just come out of a service and all of the tyres where ok according to the stealer and look ok to me.

I'll spank it round a corner tonight.

are you sure its from the back? it only happens when your moving or does it happen when the engine is ticking over at the traffic lights? does it get louder when you accelerate?

Only happens when moving, not 100% sure it's from the back but I think so.

Hard to tell if it gets louder when going faster because of increased background noise, perhaps a little. Certainly becomes more frequent at speed.

The thing that put me of it being something stuck in the tyre is that it isn't totally consistent, I.e., if it was a tyre thing i would expect it to happen at a totally consistent rate relative to speed, but whilst generally true it isn't always the case, sometimes it clicks twice very quickly or doesn't at all for a few seconds.

Appreceiate the help,

Ian.

rear bearing would give a droning sound, getting a lot louder when turning in the opposite direction (right bearing would be louder when turning left, and vice versa)

Would suggest another inspection of the tyre,
i missed a nail in the tread when i had similar symptoms. A puncture repair is a lot cheaper than getting a blow out. not only does the tyre need to be replaced, but it knackered my rim, and the rear bumper as well!!!!!

Solved. Found a pesky stone lodged on the inside of the rear right tyre. It was conceiled from view fron the outside - had to roll the car forward and check from behind.

Amazed and how much noise one stone can make!
