I cant believe how fast the cupra tdi is. It really did impress me! and since i've drove both now i would say the tdi is on par, or if not better then the petrol.

Acceleration (0 - 62 mph): 7.3 seconds
Test drove them both now and i think they're both quick.
Mate, not trying to stir a diesel vs petrol debate, but i have an ibiza fr tdi remapped to 180bhp and 282ft lbs of torque ( proven now on dash fixers new rolling road). My mate also has a beautiful standard ibiza cupra petrol, and we've had lots and lots of goes ( on private roads) at all speeds and without fail i''ll give him a couple of car lengths in a straight line, which he will be able to stay to the point. But when you hit off round abouts in torque it becomes more like 3 or 4 car lengths. His car is a quick motor and beautiful, i've drove it myself, but tdi's have come a long way, not only that, as has been said the group insurance 8 is appealing. Just to throw into the mix, as remaps are not exactly breaking the bank for the gains.
The other difference is of course mpg, much better in the Diseasel, and the extra torque is great for overtaking. I don't know about insurance groups and costs. The TDI is much easier to tune, ie 30+ bhp from a remap, you have to do a lot more to the petrol one to gain that power. This is why I was thinking of buying a Fiesta TDCI rather than a petrol one when I was looking for a new car and one of the reasons why I got the Furby vRS.
The 20 valve turbo petrol gains about the same from a remap as the 8 valve TDI mate.
Your right, all VAG units are tuneable engines to 30+ bhp, figured are also on the conservative type as most 130,s kick out mid 140's standard, i would like to see a remapped fr tdi vs a remapped fr petrol, what will the quocker car be? If anyone has any experience of this? Obv a remapped cupra petrol will blow the fr's away!

The petrol vertions are quicker in standard form so a remap will keep the status quo I reckon.
Do you know how much diff there is between the petrol and diesel, i don't just mean 0-60 figures, or top top end. But real world comparison are they very similair or does the petrol have an obvious advantage?
I recon the petrol would beat the TDi in a 0-60, but would loose above 30mph when it can use its torque? Just a guess though, as I havent driven a petrol version.
A little bit died inside of me when I got my first derv, but I dont think id go back to petrol now, just due to the cost. I dont feel bad about doing 30K miles p/a in mine, when I would be worying about the amount of fuel I was using otherwise. I got this car as somthing which was practical, but could be fun when needed - and I think it fits that perfictly.

It has been said the stats are misleading when u compare the petrol vs deisel and i agree. The petrol is fast but the cupra-TDI gives it a run for its money.
There isn't an arguement because both are fast and have the same appeal.
I enjoyed the power out of both cupra's.
All you guys will know more then me being owners of a seat, im going on the test drives i've had and how lovely they both are.

zenith grey is a colour you don't see too often on a cupra,

It's all opinion but i would get black, I don't think it can be beaten when its kept nice and clean.
A remapped Diesel is a whole different kettle of fish, when my FR was remapped it felt like a totally new car. Still makes me smile now, after 4 years of driving it.
I'd never have a black car again. They do look good when clean but as soon as the sun hits it its swirls galore. Well mine did anyway. Thats why i went white!
