Tdi110 turbo probs. Help!?!?!?!?!

my ecu light also never illuminates either on my 110 tdi. I've just stripped the instruments down to check for tape etc but it all looks ok.

Hi Mottley, thanks for your reply.
The car has done 160k miles but been services top notch. I have noticed that the ecu light does not come on when the ignition is turned on and a mate of mine told me some ppl take the bulb out?!?!
The car seems to run fine some days and not so well on others.
e.g I travel to work- 10 miles of motorway great, turn off motorway onto a b road put my foot down and the boost has gone. Seems to do it at the same point of the journey most days. The other day I came home from work (35 miles total) and the car did not loose boost once and flew all the way, i have never known it go so quick, but I have only owned the car for a couple of weeks.
A local mechanic has had the car plugged in and says he found 2 errors, 1 was the brake sensor which he changed and the other code was the turbo inlet sensor. So think am gonna trust him and change the sensor. Hopefully all will be well then.
Any ideas on good mods for the toledo?
Cheers

sssstew I think thats the problem, I for one are not 100% sure how to ensure I exercise the vanes correctly, infact in the past I've gained knowledge from you, Mutley & a few others so I'm no expert....what I do know is that if I don't do it for a few weeks & only poddle around "local" on the next "unload" I get limp mode.

Anyway, what I simply do is choose a very long hill where I can see the length of it, either A Road, Dual carriageway or M-Way. I then start from 2nd accelarate until approx 3200-3400RPM & change up to next gear & so on but like to try & get it into 4th & continue to run up the hill at between 2800-3200RPM. (The reason I choose the RPM figures is because its at 2800RPM that I get the limp mode so I like to push it beyond that)............all I'm HOPING I'm doing is making the vanes travel completely through its FULL travel.
The other reason for choosing those RPM is if I get limp mode at those RPM & under the same load this must be the area that my vanes get carboned up..........so hence I like to take it through that range & hopefully scrape the carbon off !
& BTW I do WD40 as well but not sure I'm hitting the right spot from above !

Agreed would it be worth doing a "sticky" on how to a) Exercise the vanes (if you've not got VAG.com) & b) Apply WD40 to all the places it needs to ?.

Hi all, once again thanks for your input.
After cleaning out all the intake pipes and the butterfly flap thing all is sorted now, done 200 mles and all is ok.
The remap is working brill, would recommend the bloke who did it, he is a diesel specialist at Doncaster.
The car has undergone loads of work within the last few weeks.
Now not only drives great but looks GOOD too.
Fitted spoiler, skirts and front splitter and has all been colour coded, the neighbours and last owner now take big looks at the car!!!
This site is brill, found so much out about the tolly, all thanks to the members, I will put some pics up soon, the car really looks mint, now just a few jobs left to do, air con clutch, passenger window and remote key.
166k miles and blows 2.0 petrol BM`s into the ground while returning still nearly 50 to the gallon.
Diesels rule!!!!
Cheers

My ol beeza spanked a 120d [the only one I raced] before I blew this last turbo [and no, the turbo didn't blow that same time :p ],,, seemed the 1st version so 163hp but much heavier than the lil beeza.
now the new turbo has something different and the car doesn't pull THAT strong after 3.5k rpm,,, but it doesn't trigger limp mode anymore,,, Nic, we'll have to talk pretty soon :D

sorry for delay off with injury difficult to type ..............what it was is how to exercise vanes in turbo.

all I found is going up a long steep hill from slow foot to the floor & go up through the gears has prevented me having to have a new turbo or the innotec treatment.
also I do get to move the attenuator manually through its full movement.
but I think the first paragraph is what keeps it clear. When I first started doing the hill climb ! I kept getting limp mode.............now I don't get it at all unless I miss out the hill for a few weeks.

I feel though that there must be other methods for those who haven't got a long steep hill.
