My 56 plate FR has developed an Emissions fault with only 5000miles on the clock :(:(:(

Stealer can't interrogate the ECU to find out why :confused::wtf:

The say that I may have to pay £1200 for new ECU :cry:

Anyone else had this problem??

The ECU, Engine and Clutch as a whole are not covered because they are items that are affected by customer use :wtf:

Individual components are covered but generally not the lot.

Blow your engine and you pay !!!

Apparently the same for the ECU.

I had a similar problem with Vauxhall and the lights on a Vectra I had. As they get battered by stones etc they aint covered.

I seems to me that ther stealers and manufacturers can simply walk all over the buyers.

That asside they estimate the it will be 3 weeks before they get their technical answers from Seat and 3-6wks to get the ECU.

All this time I'm without a car ................

ps

Nice motor !!!

That's not the case, I know of a few people that have had new engines & ECU's under warranty

I'll be fascinated why the dealer thinks you've done something to the ECU (unless you have)

The only mods are new sounds and muddys

I suppose the difference in air flow around the muddys could cause the problem

I wish I knew what they were on about as well.

Beats me why it takes 3 weeks to get answers from Seat in the first place

Only 2 weeks and 4 days to go........................

bypass them, call SEAT CS, and talk to them.

They'll progress it & investigate why the dealer won't issue you the ECU under warranty

That was my thoughts

My first thought was that the Lambda sensor had failed but as they can't talk to the ECU I think the Stealer may be right that this is the real fault.

They just have to ask their dad if they can go and play

Why can't they just fix it

Going to give them a couuple of days then ring.

Just wanted to know if anyone else had seen this problem gives more weight to my case??

The local dealership replaced the ECU in my Altea TDi FR without issue. Even gave it back to me when it turned out it wasn't at fault :)

I tell you what - you can buy it off me, how about £1,195 including delivery.....

Unless you've had the chip out for a performance upgrade, or the chip has been flashed by a tuner to give you a performance upgrade, i call horse s**t on this one..

Tell the dealer to fix it, or contact seat customer service to tell the dealer to fix it .. 0500 22 22 22

All this would make me very mad. Id stay in the Seat Garage and make a stink infront of all their potential new customers untill they were doing something about it!

Not many dealerships in worcestershire

This dealer is not the biggest and I've heard from a Cupra owner not the best either, as I say though there ain't many in these parts.

I'll give CS a call and get their input

Ill update int the next few days

total load of rubbish!
if they couldnt interrogate the fault memory then that is down to a comms error more than likely a problem on can or the dlc, your car has gateway on ask them if gateway is talking and what errors are present.
its more than likely(seen it loads of times) that another cu is corrupting the comms line and sending duff messages.
under NO circumstances(as long it has not been mapped or opened by the customer) should you be liable to pay for it

Try another stealer, competent technicians who can think "outside the box" are hard to find, especially as Seats fault finding s/w appears to be not that good compared to other VW Marques. Also do a search thro Audi vw Skoda web sites like this you may well find you are not alone!! and give this evidence to the dealer - its worked for me SEVERAL times!

Just before my 20,000 mile service, my FR had the Emissions Fault Light up, & briefly the DPF light too.
Both lights were reset during the service & the paperwork endorsed with "No fault found - sporadic fault light reset."
Another 2,000 miles on & the Emissions Fault Light has appeared again. The car seems to drive normally.
I shall wait until I can get it booked in then see what they say..

Who ever said an Engine ECU is not covered under the warranty should not be working for Seat,The Engine ECU is just a component like any other part that makes up your car you can drive your car however you like and you will not do any thing to damage an ECU.

All the cars ECUs and there are a lot in these Vw group motors are covered for the full 3 years warranty as all other parts are apart from your tyres, brake pads, clutch friction plate and then if you do have a problem with these under the first year they might still be covered as well depending on circumstances

The dealer you went to should Not be selling and servicing cars as they are talking total nonsense.

2 Years full manufacturers warrenty, 3rd year is dealers. As yours is less than 2 whats it got to do with the dealer? It`s not there money it`s Seats..... 5000 miles too? I am sure the sale of goods act will have something to help you if you get no joy..
