Eliminator kit again. Would avoid it. Same as the first one posted but lower spec. When I phoned GT3 Turbos to ask what they had on offer and get prices before going IHI some of the things the guy said didnt add up so that ruled them out straight away for me.

wasn't sure just seemed really cheap for what your getting. just thought its a good turbo depending on turbine and compressor choice and they give a list of turbo options aswell. whats so bad about these kits?

Build quality, fitting, restrictions of k0x type flanges, they are kits of compromise. Not many people get good figures from them without alot of work.

so its better to stick with ihi or backdraft kits then? these cars are really complicated.

when i read it its clear that its capable of a flow rate for 400bhp, but not that simplt fitting this means you will get 400bhp. - as said you need other mods. manifolds etc.

oh and i presume FWD meand four wheel drive and not front wheel drive? as it states its doesnt fit FWD but does fit quattro models...

Off topic- it is, I love it and I wish I didnt have to. The jobs Im looking at will involve me doing almost a 80mile round trip 5 days a week and although my Ibiza would easily do it I dont want to put the miles on her and cant afford to keep as just a weekend car so she'll have to go.

This was the thing I picked up with GT3 turbo when I phoned them to ask about their kits before. The info they gave/give on the site/ebay just isnt clear implying with just what they sell will give xxxbhp and requires no other parts etc etc and it just wont. Didnt really seem to know too much even about the kits they were selling although they said they could do a full fitting service but I just didnt have any confidence in them after speaking on the phone. It just didnt all add up or feel right for me.

i wouldnt be able to trust them to fit it. if they cant tell you anything about it then what chance do they have of fitting everything properly, my guess is it would be a r.a.f job. if i was you i would either move closer to the new job or find another job before selling the car.

Exactly. Got to have confidence not just in the parts supplied but the supplier and mechanics fitting etc.

Wish it was as simple as move or find another job but getting one at all is hard enough at the moment and I cant afford to move. If I could I would be able to buy something to use as a daily and keep the IHI to play in at the weekend. All the decent jobs in the industry Im going into are pretty much only in london although Im looking at more of the outskirts areas and smaller companies. If I could keep her I would and I have been umming and arring and thinking about putting it off but cant really.

Its not the buying of the car thats the problem its the other cost. I have run 2 cars a couple of times before and I just cant afford it at the moment. Its life and you have to make sacrifices but Im sure Ill get another big turbo 1.8t or 2.0tsi car in the future when the time is right again!

Bill at Badger5. There is no such thing as doing it cheap though. It always costs more than you think as something extra is always needed or something changing. You need to account for suspension and brake mods aswell. Its costs thousands hence cars with big turbos being more when they are sold.

yeah i know about suspension, brakes, gearbox mods, etc but just wondering how much you would be looking at too buy a good turbo kit and bits to get the car running around 300-340bhp? without labour.

Depends whats in the kit. If its just basic and includes mani, downpipe and turbo with oil and water lines I doubt you'd see change from £1500 if not more but you need all the other parts to make it work ie. injectors, intake, 3inch maf, filter for the maf, engine mounts, intercooler connectors, fuel pump and thats assuming you already have an uprated intercooler and exhaust system. Even without the labour you could do £6k on parts turning a standard car into a big turbo one with good suspension, brakes, clutch, diff and everything else.

thats what i thought just nothing is really that clear seems there is loads of turbos, manifolds, injectors, etc and most of it comes from other german cars. is it better to buy one thats already done then add your own personal touch or buy standard and spent ££££'s?

Ive advised the same before and to be honest I think the best route is to buy one already done and make your own mark on it. You will save a fortune which you can use to do this and could go for more power or just keep the extra you have saved to cover anything that may go wrong in the future as its always good to have abit of spare £ around when you are running higher power. The money you spend to buy one done will basically be the same that the cost of the conversion would cost.

However if you are somebody that likes the projects and build side of things like for example Hooch then doing it yourself is the only option but you will spend ALOT of money.
