i used vpower, then went back to using normal unleaded. couldnt really tell the difference appart from costing me less at the pump. petrol is pricey enough as it is now without them cranking on a little extra for vpower and no noticeable gains

I find fuel quality to be very important for my vehicles.

Fuel quality is directly related to carbon buildup, resistance to knock, combustion temperatures, fuel economy and power output. Each of these is improved, although in most cases very slightly, with higher quality fuels.

The bosch motronic engine management system we use is very sensitive to fuel quality and will apply timing in either direction to compensate. The better the fuel, the more timing the ecu allows and therefore the more power to be had.

You will not get the performance benefit you expect from Super fuel. Regular and Super both have the same energy density, which is where the performance comes from. So 'oomph' will be the same for both. The main difference is that Super has a better octane to pentane ratio. Consequently the fuel can perform normally at higher engine temperatures. This is a bit of a red-herring though as you should not see high operating temperatures in modern VAG engines because they monitor many variables and adjust the engine timing and fuel flows accordingly. Another benefit of Super is that it has added detergents which reduce engine wear - slightly. Essentially the person you sell your car to will get the benefit. The claimed extra mileage of Super is also true. However if you work out the cost, the extra three miles per gallon will cost you a couple of quid - not great value!

So although there are benefits from using Super fuels, you are unlikely to notice them. It's principally a marketing ploy; peer pressure willy waving does the rest.

I remember they did a test on either top or 5th gear a while back with different cars in different stages of performance and the only cars that it made any difference on were really highly tuned like 400bhp monsters and motorbikes get abit more bhp from it but not very much i just like to treat mine now and again :D
