Sub + Amp install - HELP!!!!

Hi there,

I own an Ibiza 1.4 and have followed the instructions on how to install a sub and amp (http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=135923), however my amp refuses to turn on when I start my car and I have no idea why?

Any help that you can offer will be much appreciated and I can supply further details and pics if they will help...

The Amp is: Legacy 600w 2 Channel Bridgeable MOSFET (LA460)

Thanks and Regards

Andy

P.S adam1.4biza I have tried emailing you about this but it keeps bouncing...

Main things to do....check you have a good earth and do you have a remote cable? I assume things like power have been checked already.

Also do you have a multi-meter so you can check power is getting to it and also check that when you turn your stereo on that the remote cable is getting power.

The remote is connected (to the black wire on the black iso connector + it is grounded - i need to buy a multi-meter

the remote is grouded? sounds very wrong to me - iso's usually have a specific slot for remote wires and if not you join it into your temp live (red or yellow depending on the car) iirc

remote wire is generally blue . never have i seen a black one . you can use a paperlip to 'trick' the amp to go on to rule out amp/sub fault . just cross the +ve and remote terminal on the amp . dont leave it like that for 24/7 use tho

there are several places to ground the amp. i personally have used the spare tyre stud that is in the boot (i think i said that in my how to thread).
the other places to earth are the rear passanger seatbelt mounts.

if you need anymore specific help and need to chat etc, then just pm me with your number or ask for mine then i can give you more help if needed.

also matty can you copy the whole link as your one is not the full link

ah you need to have more than 10 posts.

well if you have used that black lead which i highlighted in my guide, and it reads 13.47v (which is very good), then you have paired in to that cable for a remote line to your sub. i would say if that peice of cable frunning from behind your HU to your amp is one peice, you have a pairing connection behind your HU.

so if that makes sence

basically you need to check your pairing connection from your black HU cable to your blue REM cable as the fault lies some where around there...

if you need a quick fix and are desperate for the sub to work, shove a paper clip or a cable between your +ve and your REM on your sub and that will trick your sub in to thinking the rem is correct. but please if you do that, remember to disconnect it after you have finished driving or it will drain your battery

Could a bad grounding be the reason for the voltage loss? (to get the voltage from the amp i have to connect the mutlimeter to the live and the ground terminals)

yup deffinetly a crap connection somewhere.

Check all connections (screw/clamp terminals, and crimps) also try replacing the main fuse, i once had a similar problem and it turned out to be a dodgy fuse even though it looked perfectly ok.

And apart from fuses can anybody think of anything else (my 'local ' halfords store is a 20min drive so i would rather cut down the amount of times i have to go)

it is currently earthed on a bolt that holds a rear light in, when i get home from work i am going to try earthing it to a rear seatbelt holder as the spare tires bolt is painted
