strange Whering noise?

whilst in 3rd gear doing 30mph and accelerating softly i hear a strange noise
i can only describe it as whering, not that its a word or anything?

its really hard to describe, its not a harsh sound, and seems to disappear if i stop accelerating.

any ideas what it could be? someone suggested wheel bearing or warped discs?

First thing that springs to mind is the turbo. I get a noise like that in the 1st 4 gears when in low revs and put my foot down. I am yet to chuck this open to the boys on here but that is my thought anyway.

a wheel bearing would be more obvious if you dip the clutch and just listen (when moving), if it does it then, and as you slow down the noise changes, then id say it was the bearing.

It either gets quieter or doesn't happen if i dip the clutch

However, it seems to only happen as I accelerate softly
its kinda goes
wawawawawawawa
and the "wa's" go faster if i go faster

i can do some more test if you tell me what to do

if it was the turbo it would sound "feathery" like someone almost blowing in your ear kind of soft noise. if you have a boost gauge you can actually see that it starts at -10 and if you press any harder it seems to go away but rev on round and it starts turning into a screech.. This doesnt sound like a turbo on its last legs though.

I had exactly the same with mine (leon cupra 20vt 2003). I've only had it since June, it's done 60,000 miles. When I took it back to the garage I bought it from they took it in and investigated the noise. It was a bearing in the gearbox. I ended up having to have a complete new gearbox as the bearing had worn a hole in the housing!!! luckily it was still covered under the seat warranty, it would have cost over £2500 otherwise.

ok its not clutch related, it happens in gear/ out of gear, but you hear it more accelerating slowly

Hi - did the wer wer wer wering noise go away? I have got the exact same noise, only the car has covered only 9600 miles, the gearbox has been changed by the dealship, but the noise is still there? thanx

nope, still got the noise,
Someone suggested warped discs ?

could it be a feature? its not that loud, but i do notice it on occasions

Anyone any ideas on what this is yet, mines started to do it, a whiring noise nearly all the way through the revs, does'nt seem to do it all the time tho.

hey did you find out what the problem was i have a similar problem, it almost sounds as if i have a flat tyre and im driving over the valve or driving over markings in the road.
I would describe it as a ticking/knocking sound.

Any ideas?
