Strange noise coming onto boost

Most noticeable when in 3rd just below 2000rpm put foot to the floor, then fades out at around 2500rpm.

Sounds a bit like what i would say a boost leak would sound like. (never had a boost leak so cant say for certain)

No smoke pulls well does it a slight bit in 4th aswell,

Car is an Ibiza FR with 3k ont the clock.

Dont want to scare you mate, but if it sounds like a load whistle/hissing it could be the turbo giving up the ghost. On tickover does it do the same?

Well hope it goes before march 2010 lol

I get a slight turbo whistle / spooling up in first and second gear.

I think the car in its life has never been driven hard if that would play any part in it.

It should whistle a tad, but if its OTT then turbo is going bye bye!

Sounds like it could just be the boost pipe attached to the intercooler coming loose? A common problem...had it recently myself...just got a jubilee clip and clamped it together...no problems now....half an hour to fix....it could be your turbo going but unlikely with that low mileage....do you notice a whoosh of air coming in the driver's side air vent when you accelarate? If so, that's your best bet...

I would say boost leak but i'm not convinced, if it was would it not be lacking power and smoke a bit?

Can you log turbo pressure with the freeware virsion of vag-com?

mines loud man, and the head diesel tec guy at the seat garage i go to has said on numerous occasions to me that the cupra diesels are well known for a loud turbo whistle...turbos fine!

I prob is a boost leak mate. I has one a few months ago, it soundes like a high pitched squeel. Try cheching all the vac hoses and intercooler conections. Mine turned out to be a loose conection on one of the intercooler hoses.

Yes its standard was going to get a remap but have decided not to for the time being.

I've had a look at the intake pipes but cant really see any problems but thats not to say there isn't.

Can anyone tell me how to upload a sound file to the forum?

Try checking to make sure all of the hose clips that you can see are tight and have a feel off all of the vac pipes and any other piping you can see.

You might need to take off the engine cover to have a good look.

i've had exactly the same problem since i've owned my ibiza fr! thought the same, that maybe that was what a boost leak sounded like, but guessed maybe it was just the normal sound of the turbo.....so is it likely then that our cars are not running a well/fast as they should?

mines pretty loud too! i hope its ok

yep same as mine! the garage seems to think its fine!

but sometimes you hear people talking baout boost leaks...but after a check of mine the pipes seem fine and i believe it to just be the turbo whistle

Mine has got a really loud whoosh noise that comes fom the passenger side. I fit a Carbonio and the SFS hoses and have properly clamped the bottom intercooler hose down after it popped off when I was driving. I think a combination of the Carbonio and hoses just make the turbo sound louder

whats a carbonio? - i'm thinking of a kanine snack for cars! lol
tbh i dont think mine squeels every time i gun it around 2k just had a quick look at the hoses (if anybody could put up a pic showing location of the hose that usually gets loose that would help me) as far as i'm concerned it all looks well, and i'm pretty sure the turbo's not knackered.

Mine was doing it last night. Only 1 lug was catching on the boost pipe causing a loss in boost pressure, makes the whooshing sound. It popped off today, BANG and really smokey and loss of power. Check your boost pipe connection behind the driver side light cluster.
